Is there anyone we picked up who wasn't injured this year hahaha.

Fair point. Who knows, maybe we got some bargains because of their injuries?

Hopefully plays a little like Jack Darling

hopefully plays better :)

from his highlights he's a huge kick, and accurate

watch the one from just inside 50 where he clears the posts

i can see him as a line breaking half back who can kick over the zone

Best bit of the highlights video - right at the end. When some seagull, maybe Bailey Rice, wants a handball and he just refuses, turns and hits the target himself.

Love a big bloke than can kick.

Now does anyone know if he has the athleticism? Because if so I think he's a pretty good prospect.

Would've have been nice if his highlights package contained some contested marks. Reminds of Pedersen. Looks like a neat footballer, but question marks as to where he'll play at AFL level. If he's got a massive tank, he could be a lead-up 3rd tall forward.

i like drafting key forwards as the rocket is now firmly placed under a few guys who have been tagging along for a while now. Go Dees!

Iron gloves Dawesy might be getting a little nervous. Hasn't taken a mark since 2013.

Comes across as someone we may have earmarked for the role Pedersen plays - 2nd/3rd forward who can give Max a chop out in the ruck for 5-6 minutes each quarter. Seems to have good hands, decent skills and he gets to the right places. Won't play this year you would think but is handy as a back up player.

How many friends does Jesse need?

You will give Jesse as many damn friends as he asks for. Goddammit if he wants a pony get him a pony too.

In all seriousness though, just because you have one good tall doesn't mean you don't need backup. His injury history, plus the fact that there are no guarantees that he'll stick around long term, means he/we need a backup plan.

Besides, it might mean we don't need to push T Mac up forward, which is a good thing and allows our backline to be more settled. Lets not mention Dawes and Pedders being on their last legs.

Ok, had a look - this is the bloke I'm excited about. Thought I detected a little swagger and looks pretty coordinated for his size.

Skills say AFL.

If he has the body and athleticism - he'll need to out run and be quicker than his opponents at his size - then he could make it.

Either way we now have in the young player spots:

Key back: McDonald, McDonald, Frost

Forward: Hogan, Weideman, Hulett

Ruck: Gawn, King, King

That's a nice balance. It's the right amount of depth and competition for spots that will help hopefully produce some good footballers.

Looks to me like we see Pedo and Dawes having their final year at the MFC.

And Spencer. And if it's not the case they would've have earnt it because there will be options and competition! What a thought.

I am confused. I thought we needed pacey mids with outside game. However, we got a bull and three big guys. I am just confused. Not critical. I would trust those in the know

If next year is supposed to be a good deep draft, we can take more of what is exposed as needs. We've loaded up on mids recently, don't want them all of the same age, & of the same position in progress.

We can only play so many mids at one time in one team, so it makes sense to spread their ages a little, & so their developmental progress as well, so they are comin on at differing times?

all good, i should say.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
