I would think Jay Kennedy-Harris may be a little nervous about this recruitment. Seem like similar players with similar height, weight and age. (Similar names too which is possibly irrelevant)

JKH is way above Kennedy is in terms of decision making and disposal. I watched a couple of games with Kennedy playing and yes, quick(ish), goes hard and very competative but seems rushed, lacks vision and coughs the ball up a lot with vague nothing kicks. Hope he really comes on and proves me wrong !

Mate you can't go back, you can only go forward. Toumpas couldn't make it in a team that was bottom 6. It doesn't matter if he 'was' pick 4. It only matters what he's worth now.

We needed to get someone else in and see what they can do.

If nothing changes then nothing changes.

Spot on.

People need to stop looking at Jimmy's number (pick 4) and look at him as a player.

I was hoping he might turn good but nothing I saw warranted anything but blind hope.

In fact posters were blowing up when we traded Morton a pick 4 for pick 88.

I've never seen Kennedy play, but right now it looks like we've once again paid way too much for someone the Pies didn't want to hang on to anyway. Howe was worth far more than we've been given, so now I guess it's up to little Ben to show us that he's worth a hell of a lot more than anybody thinks. Good luck with that mate.

His highlight video on the MFC website is great.. hes not afraid to put his head over the ball and go in hard. Fits the theme of bringing competitors to the club.

People can [censored] and moan all they like, but so far this trade period we have gotten rid if two non competitors that cant play, for two guys that go hard at it and have the tools to be very nice players with the right tutelage.

And it cant be stated enough how the sub rule being abolished will help the likes of Kennedy and every kid like him.

That is best case scenario really. A great deal of water has to go under that bridge. He has to perform consistently to be near as effective as Kent is on a flank, then Kent has to adapt to being in the midfield well enough not to just abandon it and put him back on the HFF.

I have way more faith in Melksham as a role player than Kennedy.

Seriously? When did this happen? Kent has some attributes and I hope he comes on, but when has he ever played consistent football for a stretch? Gee, Kent is overrated on Demonland.

Would be hard pressed to find that many highlights of the Toump. I understand it's highlights but looks like a competitor.

I would have thought the first 4 games of this season were excellent before he was injured. He finished off 2014 as well, particularly in the final game with some classy goals and goal assists.

He's not overrated, his body just hasn't allowed him to string consistent games together.

I love his work. Will be fantastic for us if he can keep fit.

If true that causes more anguish.

So we rated not only Toumpas, but Kennedy as well, above Stringer, Wines and MacRae.

Again -- that is what we TOLD Quayle.

If I was in TV or JM's position, I'd tell her all sorts of porkies.

No incentive to give away your secrets to a journo.

I expect a lot more from Kent than that. Setting the bar pretty low, IMO. Reckon the first game he has really influenced is the Richmond game and he injured himself in the second quarter. So for me, to say he's played consistent football is absolute rubbish.

He has shown some attributes at AFL level, mainly toughness and occasionally an ability to thump the ball, but that is all at this stage. Hope he gets a full season to develop in 2016.

To be fair, rpfc's post (which is no longer there) referred to Kent as being 'effective' on the forward flank. It said nothing about 'consistency'.

Welcome Ben, you now wear red and blue so you have my support

Good luck

Quite a refreshing outlook, all too rare on this board.

Many here are all too happy to bag him and write him off before even seeing him in our colors.

I look forward to him showing us what he is made of.

Totally unsure about the balance in the trade that has Howe and Toumpas departing, and in return receive Kennedy and some picks. It looks and feels like a loss on the part of the MFC but for some reason it doesn't trouble me too much.

But I do think this a very loud statement from Roos, Goodwin and McCartney- and maybe others - that they do not really rate Howe or Toumpas highly at all. There was little or no effort to keep them at MFC.

The kid can play

Toumpas didn't fire a shot

Another burnt Top Draft pick....

really ? So what shot did Kennedy fire ?

Let's hope this Collingwood castaway improves with a change of scenery.......the other two certainly haven't! You could argue a case that Dawes and Lumumba have gone backwards.

Welcome Ben. I hope you make this deal look terrific for us.

Even if Kennedy turns out to be the next Ablett, on what he's shown so far we come out the clear losers in this deal. Roos can complain about the air of negativity around the club all he wants, but how else can we react to [censored] like this?

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
