Gus is good....very good

Hit the ground running...now just hits everything. Looking forward to seeing this bloke after another preseason.

I can see him taking another leap forward next year as he builds his body and tank. It has been a long time coming since we have seen a first year player of brayshaws quality. Lots to be excited about, and genuine optimism from most football fans that he will be an A grader.

Gus came 2nd to Heeney in the 'Best 1st year player' at the MVP awards last night.

Gus has had a great year on the field.

Showed real courage in every game, laid excellent tackles and showed serious fortitude to keep playing each week when he could have done with a rest.

There were also some really special moments this year that I found particularly moving.

-When he pulled Jones out of a scuffle at half time so his captain didn't get reported.

-When he kicked his first goal (and several other times on the field) the bro love between he and Jones was terrific.

-Carrying Cross's little boy (Tyler?) off the field, lifting his little hand up high, so he could celebrate with his Dad.

He is already a star in my eyes!

Without looking too closely at the stats it seems that when he gets involved then we either score, or get in a position where we should score.

Brayshaw along with Hogan, Viney, Salem and hopefully, Petracca will form the core group that will drag us up the ladder. Those first four blokes don't possess a backward step between them and will set the tone for this footy club for years to come

When he's a link in the chain, good things generally happen, and his ferocity at the contest already sets a standard for the rest of the team.

the favourite piece of play that i saw from him this season was the intercept of a cats forward thrust late in the win down at kardinia park, then some run and carry and then my memory wants to tell me that he hit the target with the kick...but i can't actually remember whether he did or not.

if he has one weakness it's that he needs to tidy up his disposal.

He is already a seriously good player, and would have been even better if he had been given a rest throughout the season. Expecting big things in 2016.

Brilliant play by Gus. My favourite, second only to Norf game - that mark, play on, gut run and snap for a goal. Class.

He also has that cold dead look in his eyes to the opposition when they shove around Melbourne players - team spirit, loves the jumper already.

He kicked a bullet straight to Big Jake Spencer who took the grab at full stretch against two Cats backmen in a very open forward line - the kick was absolutely spot on. Pretty sure Spencer went back and kicked the goal too.

I worry greatly that he was over-played and may have problems as a consequence.

I believe we ran Trengove and Scully into the ground in their first year and the results were unfortunate for one and disastrous for the other

I think as his tank and physical size improve, his disposal will likewise improve. Skills often drop as players get exhausted, particularly the first year guys. A lot of upside to Gus, can't wait!

Impressive contestant and reads the play so well.

A couple of times he ran hard off HB through the corridor and intelligently kicked ahead of the running Garlett for goals ?v Cats and Pies? This showed intelligence and maturity that we have seen all too little of at our club for a long time

Sure he petered out a bit towards the end of the season - entirely expected, and made worse by the 'flu that ran through the club over the final month or so.

So impressive.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's such a good feeling knowing that we're targeting players at the draft who meet a completely different set of criteria to the ones previously targeted under our old regime.

Compete like your life-depends on it, must be self-driven and must want to get the best out of yourself.

I just love how steady and even he is in everything he does. You can really see him thinking his way through things (not in a slow, bad way!) I feel safe when the ball's in his hands, knowing that if he makes a mistake, he will do everything to get it back, putting his body on the line to even get a fingernail on the ball in the right direction.
