Carlton Request Priority Pick

Chris

Recommended Posts

As I understand it, we were entitled to Band 1 compensation for Frawley on the basis of previous determinations but a fiction was created whereby if our application for special assistance was rejected and we copped it sweet, then we would be assured of getting the Band 1 compensation. The reality was that the AFL could have given us the special assistance under its existing rules in 2013 when we won only two games (and got nothing) and again in 2014 (when we won four games and got nothing). It was all a sham of a farce which is how the AFL operates.

We should apply again on the basis of finishing in the bottom six and of our long running poor record.

We will be refused but we need to do it on principle so that when the Commission is confronted with long running failures in the future they will have no option but to treat them as shabbily as they have treated us in recent years while pretending to favour equalisation.

I hope you're right Chris.

I hate Carlton as much as the next bloke but whenever this comes up in the media similarly to our request last year the so-called unbiased media experts all shoot it down in flames. The latest talk that is getting a good run is that compensation picks for free agents should be scrapped altogether.

Where are the discussions that Hawthorn with three homes, the whole state of Tasmania to pillage and the fact they can cherry pick a free agent like Frawley for $450.000 a year when we would have had to pay $600.000 to keep him, or Geelong with their sweet Stadium deal or Collingwood who basically say when and where they will play and just keep banking cheques, where are the real discussions about true equalisation, because an extra pick at the moment is nothing compared to the run these larger juggernaut clubs are getting.

i agree...any discussion is futile until ALL clubs get a CLEAN Stadium deal on Match Days at least

Etihad Stadium has cost Melbourne clubs near $100 Million in lost Revenue since 2000

Meanwhile Meth Coke have a WAITING LIST for Sponsors & Members....Just one example of the Gross mismanagement by AFL suits who get paid a fortune

I still don't think the AFL holds all the aces.

Ground controllers hold more aces. Especially in Vic.

Personally I think the AFL needs a good revitalisation ( Charter Rewrite) with, for a start, the pending recommendations coming out of CAS to possibly include a complete AFL overhaul.

Who to do it . I don't know. Federal Legislation in Sport maybe.

Ad infinitum & people still won't get it. As evidenced by post #47

I agree that PJ should apply for a priority pick - even if for no other reason than to expose the Carlton farce

Your first sentence is infuriating......

And your second is spot on as well..

Hope it backfires horribly on all parties, the AFL give no priority picks and the compo pick for Kreuzer ends up pick 19.

The more that ask, the less likely and priority picks get given.

I think Carlton just screwed any chance of Brisbane getting help.

Agree with posters that PJ should get in on the action just for giggles.

Merge them with the Bloody Bombers and ship them off to Tasmania..

There's a better chance of Tasmania falling into the sea.

Or maybe they could stay as stand-alone Clubs in New Zealand with an island each!

send the Blues south to Hobart, the Tassie blues

& the Bombers would do well plying they're trade imo, in Nth-Est Africa, in this case bring back hird, give him a suitcase filled with grenades, & a nice send off.

How about the bummers to Somalia. They could broker peace there and introduce the locals to Aussie rules.

I agree but it's not just Carlton who need help.

OK...

give the Blues, Lions, & Us Priority Picks ahead of the draft

that would then read

1) PP-1 Blues,

2) PP-2 Lions,

3) PP-3 Demons,

------------------

4) P-1 Blues

5) P-2 Lions

6) P-3 Suns

7) P-4 Bombers

8) P-5 Saints

9) P-6 Demons

Carlscum and Brisbane for that matter can wait 50 Premiership-free years and then be told to get stuffed. Though with Fitzoatrick at the helm, who knows.

With Fitzy at the helm they may well end up with the first 5 picks. 1 as a priority pick, 2 as a sorry you were accused of tanking pick, 3 as a compo pick for not getting every Friday night last year pick, 4 as compo for the reward of their tanking pick, and 5 for winning the wooden spoon pick.

I'm sure if he really tried he could think up some more too.

We were very, very lucky to get #3 for Frawley last year and it has set a bad precedent. We should be thankful #3 was an effective PP.

We got band 1 compo for Chip. Because we finished near the bottom it became pick 3. Hawks also got band 1 for Buddy, which because they won the flag ended up pick 18 (or 19?). That's how it should be. I'd much rather win a flag than get pick 3 compo for losing a fa.

Based on what evidence or is that your view wj? Has someone from afl hq come out and admitted that? I'm interested to know if that's been acknowledged.

Because free agency works for the top clubs. So the bottom clubs need PP's and compo more than ever. Getting rid of compo isn't practical.

But the idea of free agency comes from American sports who don't have compensation. It's not a well thought out idea to let teams have their picks pushed down just because another club loses (or willingly pushes out because they could get a bottom pick) a decent player. Although ironically it does make the draft more like a lottery

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
