Let's revisit this post after the trade and FA period see if you're right.

I think the FD has realised natural improvement will only takes us so far and we need to get that injection of A grade talent now. I reckon we'll overspend to get in at least one A grader. It's gonna happen.

Not sure how some people can't see that the team is crying out for more hard bodied midfielders. Int his day and age you need at least 6-8 inside mids running through the centre.

Currently our inside mids consist of: Vince, Jones, Viney, Brayshaw. That's only four.

Petracca and Trengove (if both are fit) slot straight into the inside mid group, but we all know with Trengove's injury past that isn't a certainty to happen.

Need to go hard for Redden. Bennell, Melksham to add depth to the midfield ranks. If we can snare Bennell and Redden that would be a quality trade period.

Bennell, Redden, Viney, Jones, Vince, Trengove, Petracca, Brayshaw. Doesn't look to bad.

I hope I'm wrong! When you watch those finals matches and look at what the likes of a Dangerfield or Kennedy can do, the chances of us landing ourselves someone like that ... can't see it.

On the other hand, 5+ years down the track, Brayshaw, Viney, perhaps Petracca, Salem ... who knows.

We have good coaches and a good culture in place with lots of upside - but AAA players in the last slab of their career want what Frawley and Rivers wanted.

We won't be getting any AA midfielders until we're consistently up near the top end of the ladder.

Unless we get stupid with $$$, which isn't going to happen.

Reality.

We got a 40 goal forward with electric pace for nothing last year.

Id have a crack at Billy Hartung from the Hawks - quick & skilful and might be looking for greener pastures - If he cant get a look in after Smith on one leg gets picked before him a final ?

Billy is currently in the lushest of green pastures. We still look pretty brown at the moment. Hoping for more rain next year.

Swap Howe for Redden

Watts & 2nd Round Pick to Port for Hartlett

Danger in as FA

Adcock delisted FA

1st round pick take Curnow

If Garland goes pick up 2nd round compo if we are lucky swap for Tomlinson

Changes the dynamics of the midfield very quickly

Jetta Tmac Dunn

Salem Frost Hartlett

Stretch Danger Vince

Brayshaw Hogan Kent

Garlett Tomlinson Pedersen

Gawn, Viney, Jones

I/C Petracca, Redden, Adcock & 1 of ANB, Curnow or Lumumba, bad oversight by me but Tyson has to go in here, shows some depth that we could have if we get things right, young White showed a bit I'd give Grimes another year or two as depth we are always going to get injuries and depending upon opposition and match ups a tall would be required to come in

It seems that it hasn't taken long for Vanders to fall out of favour! Same could be said about Tyson!

p.s. Roos has gone on record in saying that we are not interested in Bennell!

He's always looked slow and mechanical at AFL level. Like Jamar of late (who still largely dominated the VFL). I don't know how much better than Spencer he would be. So I wouldn't be in a hurry to find out. I'd rather draft and develop a guy who has the athleticism for AFL.

I'm not advocating Currie for Melbourne but expect he will go to a club desperate for a ruck and once he strings a few games together and gains some confidence will be a solid AFL ruck. He's a much better contested mark, user of the ball and tap ruckmen than Spencer.

I like everything you've done here, but there is a major flaw to your plan..... if you think we'd be compensated for Garland leaving after landing Danger as a FA your dreaming!! The rest is optimistically plausible however, and looks bloody good on paper.

Has Chook ever gone one right before? Never seems to give much away at all and personally from what i have seen i can't remember one that he hit the nail on the head yet?

Roos

Goodwin

Bartlett

AHG

Michie

Morton

there's a few off the top of the head.

As Ive said before, just because trades don't happen doesn't mean they arent tabled.

you need to remember you barrack for Melbourne. Few blokes with options want to play for us. Do you think our meagre returns at the trade table are due to Mahoney and Viney sitting on their hands?

Think what you want. I'm comfortable leaving you to stuff you read in Facebook and "The Haydn Bunton Thread"

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
