Charlie Curnow

It seems that the club is absolutely set on who they want at three given the lengths they went to to get the pick. Consensus is that it'll be Parish. Despite his terrible highlights video most observers say that he really does have great disposal which is what we need more than anything. Personally I'd be thrilled if Curnow were to slip through to us at 7 but that doesn't seem to be on the cards. I can see him developing into a really good mid who can push forward and have an impact if a club wanted to take him in that direction.

I thought Parish but when we look at the list we one gun KFP, Dawes who is frequently injured and inconsistent and 28? next year, Pederson was was just given a one year deal - we all know what the next deal is!! No young KPF's coming through. I'm thinking maybe Curnow who can play 3rd tall forward and run through the midfield now and then.

If he doesn't slip through and (assuming we take Parish at #3) Curnow gets taken by Essendon, then, in all likelihood, we will have to chose between, Francis and Weidemann. Either Weidemann or Francis would similarly be a massive boost for us in the advent that we miss on Curnow.

I am disregarding GC as a threat as I am sure that they have an arrangement with us when we traded pick #6 for their #3.

Francis and Weideman may both also be gone by pick 7. Leaving us to choose between Milera, Oliver and Mathieson

Essendon have 2 picks and the current speculation is they will take whoever is left out of Parish and Francis, along with Weideman and Curnow, so I think it's pretty unlikely we will get to "choose" between Francis and Weideman, rather we will have the decision made for us if they are in fact the players we rate next.

Also remember we didn't know that we would have pick 7 when we made the trade with Gold Coast. So while it's possible we know who they are planning on taking with pick 6, I doubt there was an arrangement about who they would take as there would be at least picks 8 and 9 before our pick 10... not to mention, why would they do that for us when we clearly wanted pick 3 badly enough to make that trade without andy predications on who they used pick 6 on? Despite this, the fact that they were willing to trade down 3 places does make it seem as though they are interested in a bolter, like Milera.

Bottom line, I think Francis, Parish and one of Weideman/Curnow will be gone by our pick 7, with the possibility that all are gone. I personally hope that Essendon opt for Weideman and Gold Coast do something different and target a guy like Milera, leaving Curnow to fall to us.

If I had to guess I would say that GC will take Milera at pick 6 as their projected Bennell replacement. They dont really need any more tall forwards do they?

Much better footage of him in there than in the previous highlight package. Very nice kick on both sides.

I don't know which thread it's in, but someone posted a highlights package for him a few weeks ago that made him look like a soft outside spud who can't hit targets. His passes to the leading forwards were exactly what we see from the team already, either too long or dropping short. Nobody looking at that footage would have him as a first round pick. The footage posted above is far more impressive.

Which player will be the next Lucas Cook? The draft is a lottery. All the so-called experts on here: what a joke! How many times have you actually seen any of these junior players play apart from a few highly selected highlights on YouTube and other highlights reels? At least the MFC seems to know what they are doing after many years of hopeless recruiting.

Brett Anderson once again said this afternoon he thinks the Dees will take Curnow at pick 3.

I don't know whether it is pure speculation or an educated guess with a bit more substance.

It's all guessing at this stage I suppose - educated or not. As I mentioned on another thread, I had very positive reports on Parish as a pick up but his size might be a concern. Curnow also has very good credentials but is a big lad and this could be the difference.

BA usually doesn't have the early scoop, and he has an incentive to keep us guessing over the picks (as this is his bread & butter).

I'd be backing the early mail coming through (as it turned out to be correct) that MFC was chasing pick 3 from Gold Coast because they wanted Parish.

I just can't see our recruiters having a late change of heart due to a few highlights, like us plebs do.

You're going to respond to every suggestion until now and draft day that doesn't have Parish at 3, aren't you ?

The same case could be made for the likes of Curnow.....

One thing we've seem from this recruiting team is they haven't sprung surprises like that, i think we'll grab Parish at 3 and hope Curnow is at 7.

we fought off the temptation to grab Lever early,

imo Parish is to good to pass up at 3.

Not at all.

But the impression I get is that BA is not on the money here.

I never heard this, only that we were after pick 3 for Parish.

I just can't see what Curnow has that would make us reach.

Curnow will fall to 7. Essendon would be dead set keen on Weideman and there is no way they are drafting wideman and curnow at four and five. They will probably draft Francis and wideman, Gold Coast Milera leaving us with Curnow.

If we go Parish then I think it goes:

Ess: Mid - Mathieson, Oliver. Maybe Francis or Milera

Ess; Fwd - Curnow or Weideman

GC: Milera or Curnow

Why do you think Essendon are so keen on Weideman over Curnow? If they plan on playing 2 rucks and Daniher then they won't want a 197cm forward, they'll want the more mobile option.

Similarly I think Milera is a Scotty Clayton special on the Gold Coast but he might have some reservation about a SA boy and whilst Peter Wright will make a nice Dixon replacement I'm not sure they have a 3rd tall forward option. Depends on how much faith they have in Sam Day.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
