Future Captain

I watched and listened to Jack Viney closely at training this year and was impressed with his intensity and interaction with team mates who hadn't performed drills properly or worked with his passion. He demanded a level from his mates and let them know if they fell short. More of this please !

After today I think we need to give serious consideration to making Cross captain for a year , Brayshaw VC and possibly Jesse Hogan DVC

Chunky Jones Might appreciate concentrating on becoming a better footballer without the Captaincy hanging around his neck.

Thoughts??

I like that you asked for thoughts as you've obviously put none into this post.

10 million over 7 years to Hogan. and make him Captain. The bloke is as passionate a young player I have seen...hates losing and will drag others along with him

I think it would drive the other players to get the ball forward if you had the big captain as a target down there...

It certainly looks like Viney will be in the right stage of his career to take over from Jones when he retires/steps down. I would say Gus would make a brilliant VC, depending on how Hogan develops he could be a candidate as well but I never particularly liked the idea of a FF being captain. That said there have been successful captains who were/are forwards; Neitz for one, Brown, Reiwoldt, Pavlich, I'm sure I could name a few more if I really tried.

But for me Viney might as well have captain tattooed somewhere on him, it just feels right!

Apart from his age, Hogan will remain unsuitable to be captain until he eliminates the tantrums he likes to throw every time the ball isn't delivered where he wants it. And that could take a long time.

I hope he never eliminates it, LDC.

Doesn't hurt having a key forward with a bit of 'tude, and high expectations of his teammates.

I think Jack Viney is the future captain, that is why I put him in the poll 3 years ago. Viney is EVERYTHING MFC does not represent - but everything we need to represent in order to be a successful football club. Jack Viney will lead us to a flag, he embodies everything we lack as a side - hard, uncompromising, improves upon his weaknesses, doesn't relent, hates losing, plays with passion, etc. We are a very lucky club to have this kid. It will be a great time for the MFC when Viney holds up that cup.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
