WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOMAS BUGG

GWS have pushed 2 out (Townsend to Richmond, Hampton to Adel) and are apparently trading up to 35 rejects to Carlton (or realistically 4 or at most 5 - Phillips, Sumner, Lamb, Plowman, maybe Tomlinson).

They've added 2 in Stevie J and Simpson.

They seem keen to keep McCarthy.

I wonder where they sit in terms of list space. Their website lists 46 and presumably they have to get down to 40 including drafting the normal 3 in which case they'd have to ship a few more out.

If Carlton are going for 4-5 GWS players (incl. Plowman and Tomlinson) why are we only targeting Bugg?

I presume we aren't interested in Phillips, Sumner or Lamb and maybe not the other 2 at the price. Tomlinson has mainly been reported as staying. Plowman will make up most of the cost of the trade, the other 3 are Carlton reaching for some depth for guys most clubs wouldn't pick up.

Treloar is the other one I forgot.

Most of their good kids have signed on. They aren't keen to let any of them go.

Who do you think we should be targetting?

I would have a go at Tomlinson as well as Bugg.

Apparently wants to go.

Maybe so, but what if he costs a 2nd rounder and the only other options you have to help Hogan are Dawes & Pedersen?

Makes the decision pretty easy in my eyes.

Unfortunately, I'm not convinced he'd be an upgrade on either.

I've watched the Dees v GWS game a couple of times and while you can't judge on a single game, I thought Tomlinson looked very average.

Reminds me of Stephen Reynoldson of Geelong/Bears. Physically looked like he could be anything, but rarely delivered.

I'm undecided on him.

If you look at the game against GWS 2014 he had a really good game playing off half back, really took Dawes to the cleaners but other games he looks average.

He has been in talks with the blues & saints but no word on us talking to him.

I'd like us to propose a trade of #6, #29, #46, #50, #64 & 2016 third rounder for Bugg, #7, #8.

6 (1,751), 29, (653), 46, (331), 64 (101) & 2016 3rd rounder (483 if wooden spoon to 220 if premier) = 3319 *assuming wooden spoon

7 (1,644), 8 (1,551), Bugg = 3195 points.

Doubt it is enough points to make them do it, probably needs to be 2016 2nd round.

Anyone think the Tom Bugg deal will get done today?

I think there's more to the story. For such a basic deal to take forever there must be another component to it that needs sorting out. Whether that be a swap of picks as others have suggested to get GWS the points they need, or another player is being discussed I'm not sure. We have a good history of dealing with them so I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was something else involved here.

I'm thinking 29, 46 and 50 will go for Bugg and a pick back in the early 20's.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
