Needs to lay off the darts...

Is this still the case? It's dead set unbelievable that a person who aspires to be a professional athlete would smoke.

Wish we had signed him 2 months ago. Going to cost an extra 100k a season based on this form!

Thought he was off them an had been for a while

that's what i heard too. but lungs don't instantly recover

if he stays off them and has a good pre-season his stamina could improve big time

It was a joke. Doubt he's still punching durries at this stage of his career!

Anyway, loving his work at the moment. Hopefully he can manage a full preseason this time round and build on his endurance.

Could be anything.

As I have said in a number of posts on here, I think big Max will be a critical player in our next premiership. He has the skills and the pure shear dominance to intimidate teams, very few of which would have answers to his skills and size, just the same as Sandilands dominates teams.

Clearly his major priority for the next year or so has to be his endurance which should come as he endures his first real,pre-seasons without his (alleged) smoking habit.

I am a huge fan, and he is a very very important part of our future.

I'm told by a pretty reliable source that he's off them these days. The person who told me used to smoke them with him.

I have been reading all your posts for a couple of years but rarely contribute. But today I feel the need.Last year I opined that Max had a great future in front of him.I was right!

My son plays for the Ormond footy club. On the Saturday before we beat Geelong Max was watching Ormond .He did play for Ormond so he drops down occasionally. At 1/4 time I walked onto the ground to the players' huddle - and Max was just behind me.So I couldn't resist the chance to say "Well done Max you're playing good footee-keep at it".He smiled and held up his hands as if marking a ball and said " I've just got to learn to take a few of these".Then he went down to Geelong and the rest is history! I believe that I helped Max feel more confident about himself and turned his career around!!!Go Max ( and yes,he is big when up close)

Max doesn't just drop down at Ormond occasionally, he is one of the co-coaches of the Under 17s although his MFC commitments don't allow him to get to all of their matches.

My own son had a season at Ormond in their Under 16s some years ago and still has his jumper which must be one of the most godawful jumpers in football. Brown with a light blue V puts it in the Hawthorn jockey livery class of the 1990s.

I knew Max would become the hero /cult figure we needed.

With not much to laugh about he has been a happy figure around the club since he was recruited.

Like Watts,a top clubman that actively supports players at Casey and is great with the public.

The smoking story comes from his first year I believe when he was sprung on the way to training.

he also instigated the Scully exit with the famous Gawn Yawn in China.

He is a talisman for the club and will be ,along with Goldstein, the best in the AFL.

Never doubted him.

After Mark Stevens on Ch7 said Max is now worth $400-$500k he asked Goodwin if the Dees could keep him.

Goodwin, convincingly said he 'was sure Max would be with us next year'.

Max is only now starting to gain confidence in his legs.

After 2 knee recos he wasn't able to jump at centre bounce encounters.

Now he can but another preseason will bridge that stamina gap.

Remember early in pre xmas pre season he was still in Rehab and only doing slow laps.

Not a good base to get your stamina up.

with luck he will end this season in a better position to improve.

But Goodie when asked about Prestia's links to the Demons also said 'that's the first I've heard of it' with a pretty straight face.

Hi is proving to be quite the revelation (at least for mine )

Prior to this season i had Gawn marked as being at the crossroads. .no mans land with but a short whiles to show his relevance to this team.

Well he's done that emphatically. ( to the Max one might say )

Well done you good Gawn and may it continue and improve.

I wonder how much credit Greg Stafford can take for Gawn's improvement and application? Given Spencer's improvement too, I reckon Stafford might be a pretty decent coach. He's a good bloke too, from what I've heard.

Thoughts on his game?

He looked like he was playing like a man that had a midweek pump up ;)

Great clunks!

OMG - hasn't been seen anywhere remotely near a certain Mr Danks I hope :-((((

In all seriousness, he does look as if he has taken that big extra step since the Kardinia Park game. Go Max.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
