Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

If it's wet, Them Viv Michie must play, he is a great wet weather footballer. Clean, hard, low to the ground. Slow, wet footy brings a lot back to his level. All of a sudden he is a very competitive footballer.

Watching Dave Mission injury report. It looks like Vanders Brayshaw Grimes and Lumumba are all set to play this weekend only if they get through Thursday's main training session.

Expect the Bombers to come out really hard from the first bounce, I would really like to see Vanders back as he's one that's always up for a fight.

People in the media are saying its a must win for the Bombers but I reckon it's almo as much of a must win for us, their down on confidence, mentally shot, and coming off a 100+ slaughter. To lose this would have us taking another backward step.

I really hope Gus is good to go for this one, it's the perfect game for him.

yes correct, for them playing well would be good enough, but for us if we lose we will be a joke, and rightly so.

Good to see the club aware of fresh legs being imperative. Remember that even though the Bombers had a 6 day break, they were basically in a jog for half the match Sunday and will be relatively fresh by Saturday (assuming Hird doesn't finally swing the axe on all his dud players seemingly only getting a game due to his inability to separate coaching from personal relationships).

One forgotten advantage for us is Goodwin's influence and knowledge of what Hird might try to pull out of the bag. This is definitely a match where you'd want to see Goody really step up in the coaches box and advise Roosy on potential intel.

Does vandenBerg come straight back, or does he need a game at VFL level?

I say bring him back. EDIT: Saw it discussed already. I'm with you hogans_heroes.

..or was it what Thompson tried to pull out of the bag? the Hird bag might be empty.

The other big advantage we have is EFC don't like playing outdoors and if it rains, well they don't like getting their hair wet.

Mark Bagurly has decided he WILL contest his one week suspension.

Now watch him get off free.

He will for sure. The totally upright AFL tribunal will figure EFC has suffered enough this week regardless.

I would have thought that now he is under WADA scrutiny he would have dumped all that stuff from his bag down the sewer....so I think the bag will be empty.

The six day break - will that mean that we are more likely to bring back Brayshaw (if fit) as he played only a few minutes, and vandenBerg, and maybe Fitz, as well as considering debuting Harmes?

Looks to be a square root symbol rather than a tick or the Nike "swoosh."

Getting a bit picky, Ethan - thats all I could find on my laptop.

Anyway, we need to just do it √

Positive injury update. So:

In: Grimes, Vanders, Lumumba

Out: Bail, Spencer, M Jones

FB: Jetta Dunn Garland

HB: Cross McDonald Grimes

C: Lumumba Jones Watts
HF: Brayshaw Hogan Vanders

FF: Garlett Dawes Howe

Foll: Gawn Vince Viney

Int: Tyson ANB Stretch Toump

E: Fitzy, Harmes, JKH

Leaning towards giving Howe one more week back as a true mid sized forward. Hurley will go to Hogan more than likely as I think Hooker will stay forward. Then it's a matter of having a couple of good marking options to take advantage of Gwilt and Steinberg. I'm tempted to leave Spencer in (ahead of Howe) but I think the best balance against Essendon's lack of ruckman is to ask Dawes to do a bit of time in the ruck and to put the challenge on Gawny to run out the game. It's time he shows he can do it.

Count Dawes and Howe (in current form) out of that, they are bring it to ground options as is Spencer.

I'm inclined to select either Dawes or Howe to play CHF and bring in Harmes for the other one. Gives us a bit more mobility and he can mark.

Essendon biggest problem apart from Hird and their funk is they are slow. We would play into their hands going tall with talls who can't mark and can't or won't chase.

Howe hasn't been chasing and hasn't been attacking the ball well in the air, but he did enough with a couple of mark and kicks against the saints and cats. He'll get that chance when not up against a true key defender v Ess. One more week.

Dawes can't mark that's for sure but I think his mobility and chasing is good enough when up the ground. The MCG should suit him more than if it was a small ground like Etihad.

I think it's a lot to expect from Harmes to be a marking player off a few good grabs at VFL level. Vanders is the one I want to see use his height to take more grabs and play as the 3rd tall, but besides round 1 he's been used as a midfielder/high half forward and I think he'd get that role again.

Probably shows he's not AFL standard if he can only play in the wet...

Watson done for the year with shoulder surgery.... interesting.

Vince to Heppell, Viney to Zaharakis

Let Goddard run around like a headless chook and butcher the footy, thats his specialty.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
