My guess is that they will not risk him if there is any doubt. The medicos will hopefully make the right decision. What we appear to be seeing with Jesse is a chronic problem that will have to be carefully managed over his career. You have to worry a bit about how much uninterrupted football he is going to be able to play. He is very young to have a chronic back injury and his physical/pack breaking game style would not help. On the one hand I would like to see Jesse locked away as a Demon for many years. However, this is offset against the risk of doing so with a player who might have a long term injury problem thereby limiting his playing life. Can he afford to play such a physical game as he does? We all remember how David Schwartz had to completely change the way he played after his knee recos. One way or another, we cannot have a forward line that is Jesse dependent.

I could be wrong, but I think Hogans back injuries are related to hamstring issues. I think if his hamstrings are looked after his back will give much fewer problems.

These negative thoughts around the Hulk need to be banished to the bottom of the sea! At the moment he has missed one match of footy due to an extra-cautious approach to hamstring tightness.

I'd disagree entirely. The two games Jesse has been withdrawn from have been the Hawks and the Cats at Skilled. Realistically I think the FD has decided to rest him in games we are most likely to struggle in as him being there wouldn't affect the outcome. As a supporter, I'd far prefer to see him miss those games and play against Carlton, St Kilda, Bulldogs etc- games we are far more likely to be in up until the final siren. It worked conveniently in the end as resting against Geelong leading into a bye meant he'd get two straight weeks to recover before a Darwin game by only missing one game & as we know, we ended up winning without him. Even better.

Furthermore, we also need to remember he is the sole focal point forward of centre on a team that relies on him heavily. The impact on a big bodied key-forward is enormous as is, and the fact he is 19 only exacerbates that issue. My initial disappointment when he is pulled from games and I have about 70% less confidence in us forward of centre is quickly restored when I realise mature decisions are being made on this young kid no matter how important we all know he is. There is no longer a 'messiah' mentality and it bodes well to ensure his body can take on the rigour of full-time AFL football going forward.

Just on all the discussion about playing too tall/changing a winning side, it seems unlikely Roos will be dropping Dawes regardless of Team balance.

Yes, we had a great win last week, but for mine, it was in SPITE of the 22 we had out there instead of BECAUSE of the 22. What I mean by that is injuries forced us to play a weakened side - just because we won it doesn't mean you stick with that weakened side, you improve it as players become available.

Without Spencers help Gawn will have another exhausted & poor Q4, leaving our midfield smashed, therefor we'll be thrashed late in the game as so often happens. IMO we much need Spencer's help against NicNat.

Because it'll be hot, plus because it's the Eagles, our best endurance runners like TMac will be vital. Hence runners MJones & Bail could stay & be dropped next week if necessary.

Riley is less a runner & could give way if someone needs to come in, E.G. Garland,.

Hogan in, and unfortunately to maintain balance, Dawes could be dropped for the match (doubt he will be though).

Probably. Could be the other way around. A sprained ankle could lead to a host of knee, ankle, foot, groin, back injuries. I had OP when I played footy as a junior and it all snowballed into knee problems. Hamstring issues become knee problems. I wonder if it's a fitness issue though, not directly related, so kind of a difference in way you move and approach a situation. Maybe. I don't know. I'm not a doctor. STOP ASKING ME QUESTIONS!

Roos really rates Garland, as per his mid year review and thus will come in if fit. Hogan is a no brainer.

I think Spencer may be the unlucky one, along with Bail.

Nice problem to have - competition for spots.

I think it's more that Bail would feel lucky to be getting a game ATM chook.

As for Spencil I think he served his purpose last week and would be happy to be playing a role like that given his aerial limitations in rucking contests. On the ground he is super competitive.

Going to be an interesting time at the selection table.

Dawes can cover for Gawn in short stints just to provide a contest Rob.

Will also change the look of the forward line for a while and free up room for the Hulk and Jeffy to work in while Gawn in resting.
