I don't think I've done anything but defend Watts forever, but today was my straw that broke the camels back. It is fine to say he cops it, and he did some quite nice things, but he had a real stinker overall. A real shame.

Nailed it SJ.

The critical factor was Hinkley putting Ebert behind the ball. Him picking up so many uncontested possessions started them running forward of the ball, and closed up the space we were running into, so we stopped running, just as they started running. They also clamped down on Jones & started to win clearances.

What bothers me is that's not the first time this has happened. Seems that every time the other team stops Jones, or puts a man loose in defence, we're helpless.

ur coaches, whether it's Roos or Goodwin or whoever, needs to work out what to do about those two blindingly obvious moves by opposition coaches. Or we're stuffed.

Annnnd you know what fixes it?? Putting a man capable of negating that role on the lose man behind the ball! It's that simple!

Every loss Watts just cops it. The performance of Our team is all about midfield, we have no midfield depth. Today whilst our starting mids were fresh we played well. As soon as they were spent so were we, we just don't have the second string midfielders.

Today we basically played 18 players, Howe, Bail, M Jones and Fitzpatrick weren't even out there. No team can carry 4 players that have zero impact. You add another 10 players that were ordinary, it doesn't give you any chance to compete.

It's time our coaching group are put under the microscope a bit more, the inconsistency from week to week has to be reversed. We all know we still have a B grade list, however 24 points up and then they kick 12 of the next 14 goals....that's a coaching issue!!!

Perhaps the coaching box can do much better?

I'd love to go to work in a physical game on a pay packet that most can only dream of, then run around flapping my arms pretending to want the ball, then not go when it's my turn to go and play my part, then let lesser players in the opposition run past me with the ball and go unchallenged, then let my actions help kill off and bury a culture of desperation that we so badly need. Then come back and do it all again next week because I'm untouchable.

The play leading up to Spencer's goal was interesting. Toump takes a mark just outside 50 and is called to play on while going back to take his kick for no apparent reason. If you watch carefully, you'll see that the reason is that Ollie Wines had run right across the mark and stuck with him and if they didn't declare an arbitrary play on they would have had to admit it was a 50m penalty and given Toump a shot on goal from about 5m. It didn't actually cost us because Toump has great skills and Spencer held on to a good mark and nailed the goal, gut it's worth mentioning.

People need to realise that we are a young rebuilding team and there will be inconsistency from week to week. That doesn't excuse the performance but it might help explain it.

We need to ensure we put scoreboard pressure on when we are dominating the game. It's cost us three times so far this year against GWS, Crows and Port.

The signs are still promising with our young brigade but the team needs to realise that if they bring the pressure like last week and against the Tigers, Suns and Crows they'll win more often than not. Let's see how they back up next week.

16 out of the last 18 goals, not 12 out of the last 14 goals. Yep we were worse.

You only DONT send the extra man to their loose man IF u don't back your defensive capabilities to defend when they get it Akum (ie, man to man defensive skills).

Roos would be one of the few of the so called "rated" coaches who doesn't seem to counter this move with extras up forward. Seems to work well for the clubs who follow this rule. Not sure why we aren't following their lead here. It's not like its a new strategy either. Been around for many moons now.

I think most reasonable supporters recognise there will be inconsistencies and a few ups and downs during a season in a relatively inexperienced line up (relative to the opposition) like we saw today. However, it's the way in which we lose that bothers me Gonzo. It's all or nothing. No shade of grey in between.

For a team to only kick a few goals from late in the 2nd and allow its opponent to kick 16 is beyond reason even for a somewhat inexperienced list. If it was up against one of the top 3 in form power houses I would be in agreement. If it was only every 3rd or 4th week I would understand. But it wasn't and isn't. The fact we can rarely string more than 1 win together, especially on the road, is a huge sign that many within the present list are psychologically beyond repair or not capable of playing the game at AFL standard (or both!).

We have to sort them out ASAP and move them on smartly or we will continue to wallow at the bottom of the ladder for decades to come.

Is there anything stopping us from creating a human pyramid in our last line of defence? We could pay Howe $600k to line up from the goal square and take species at the apex of the pyramid.

I'd also like to see a set play where our players army roll at a fwd50 stoppage. Take them by surprise.
