C'mon jnr, not only is this petty but the DE doesn't tell close to the full story. Bail and Jones had very little of the ball and therefore were always going to have a decent DE. Grimes is fair enough but the other two shouldn't be there.

If you wanted to make an argument for them then you should have gone with the fact that both kept Murphy and Johannisen very quiet for most of the game. They did great defensive jobs on them, even if they got very little of the pill themselves.

So OD, you think that a player unlikely to kick a goal from straight in front is more likely to lob a quick pass successfully to a player in the goal square?

I can imagine what you would have said if the pass was not right and there was a fumble but the ball was still in our possession and the siren went.

Hind sight is always wonderful sue.

The fact remains he made a decision to play in a way that has produced similar results in the past.

IMO it was a poor decision if he does not know by now that those shots are his poor suit he never will.

You would have him making a decision to turn the ball over rather than have a shot at goal because you think he has poor goalkicking confidence?

You are making the assumption that a pass was a certain goal, while taking the shot was a 50/50. I think everyone is arguing that it was clear that the odds of a possible pass resulting in a goal were well below 50/50, and certainly far worse odds than a shot at goal from 30m out.

If he'd kicked the goal, we wouldn't be having this conversation. It's easy to be critical when the result was less than ideal.

I'd definitely prefer the disappointment of a bad set shot miss than the heart in mouth moment of a floater that gives the opposition every chance to pick it off. Off course there's the chance we'd have gotten away with it, but the set shot was the percentage play I think. Given the player in question, I'm surprised some would prefer that he took the more difficult kick.

Of course it doesn't change the disappointment of the miss.

Yeah, that stood out for me too.

Hope that moment was a little bit of weight lifting from his shoulders. Toumpas puts enough weight on his own shoulders, never mind the commentary about him being a bust and constant comparisons with Wines. Hope we see him build on his performance.

Also loved Hogan’s reaction to Howey’s hanger in the third quarter. Was in a great position to see the grab and just clapped and laughed as he ran past Howe. Jones also had a laugh and then probably told Jeremy to take his time and have a shot.

Good to see him kicking through the ball a bit 'Chaser'...confidence is up and if he believes he can play at the level it will make a big difference.

Couldn't get to the game, just finished watching the replay .... so good. Bail, from what I could see, played ok. He needs to get more momentum up when kicking for goal. Toumpas was pumped after that positive goal review - great to see. Nice pressure and work-rate from the backs. Forward contests had the dogs worried. vandenBerg. Double win with the girls getting up pre-match.

Obviously the Bail missing 20% was that dreadful kick for goal at three quarter time.

At the time he marked the ball there was a MFC player 12 metres out on his own and Bail ignored him.

A goal then would have snuffed out the Dogs before the last quarter started.

Fortunately the Dees went on to win easily in the end so everyone forgets about Bail.

The quarter had been going 32 mins and there was only 12 seconds left on the clock. Had he played on to the loose player in the square there's every chance the siren would have gone.

I pretty much agree with Matthews. If you are trying to run down an opposition player you should expect his team mates to try to protect him. I have 2 possible issues - was it within the distance limits (probably) and did Goodes get Jones high - seen the replay & it's hard to tell from footage

Jones was Kosi like in his lack of awareness & preparedness

Completely agree. Toumpas was always a very neat kick over short distances in his draft year, but appeared to lose a bit of depth with his hip issues. That second goal is perhaps a sign that he is able to get that extra bit of penetration with his kicking.

It appears that so many of his issues to this point are confidence and belief based.

I'm glad the selection committee stuck by him after a couple of ordinary games, I think he will respond to that faith.

Is vandenburg in trouble? I'm pretty sure he kicked goodes' hand/arm as goods was trying to pick up the ball which probably broke it. I'm probably more happy about the injury, he was a little pr ick all day to Melbourne players including hogan, extremely fiery and confrontational, was just trying to start trouble (e.g. after how mark having a go at Hogan) & the shephard was of an aggressive player wanting to hurt, rather than wanting to protect his ball carrier.

If Toumpas can make that a baseline game – I don't mean so much the goals, but the 20 touches – he is a must select. Provides much needed skills and footy smarts. Feel like he just starts to overcompensate when he's not getting near it. Yesterday the usual Toumpas deer in headlights mode was replaced by calm. Seemed to never stand still. He played a restrained AFL game yesterday... more please.

Hey I haven't actually seen the game yet. I just happened to be going through the stats and this jumped out at me. Not what I expected to see at all.

So haven't really said anything about the game yet but something I really liked was that it was a very even team performance. It didn't feel like there were any passengers. Even Lumumba with low numbers still did some good defensive acts.

But Jesse Hogan, he is just gearing himself up for a big one some time this year. I would love nothing more than for it to be v the Pies on QB. But his game last night was really rounded, kicked his 3 goals but was also involved in others. Push hard all day all around the ground.

Brayshaw I also seeing having a big one soon (hopefully next week), but I love his grunt and pressure. He's also got a really mature head on him.

I was critical of Spencer being in there but no doubt he one the day as the ruckman. His second efforts were also quite good. I don't know his future, but it would be great if he could back this game up next week.

We get Jack Viney back next week, and possibly Tyson, tough call on who comes out. Probably Matt Jones with concussion, possibly Bail. Is Jetta also set for return?

Difficult to rate Toumps game for me. The good was excellent, the bad was face palming. Problem is he panics in certain situation and gives up goals from it. Last night he got 2 of his own so that's a good output from him. It may well be a slow build with him getting him confident in his abilities. Part of me thinks he's still got Neeld's voice in his head at times.

Sorry to keep flogging an old dee, but you have tried to defend your wobbly position twice by quoting hindsight, both times inappropriately. There is a very good chance that Bail would have known the siren was going to go very soon - that's what all those guys with loud voices on the bench are for.

After watching the game again Fitzpatrick had a perfect game. Kept Boyd to 1 handball and had 100% efficiency with 14 touches and a lot of good marks.
