Will the Giants retain star out-of-contract quartet Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Stephen Coniglio?
.
Shiel is the most prominent of the four, given he possesses qualities all clubs yearn to see in their star midfielders.

Explosive pace from stoppages make him a hot prospect.

Interesting article about the challenges GWS will face at end of this season keeping all their talent.

Hopefully we throw a big offer at one or two of their out of contract young guns.

They still have some cap concessions. They would only lose these guys if someone offered overs in terms of salary or length of contact. Let's not forget that the names on the list of players to leave gws went to other clubs for reasons other than money (in playing time, closer to home).

Also, Scully, Davis and other big fish to sign on had heavily front ended contracts, meaning they might still have some cap room to play with.

Shiel would be great, but we can't offer $$$ like Carlton could.

Why? Who are we honestly paying big money to? Who is honestly worth big money on our list?

Jones deserves it, Lumumba is probably close to it. Dawes has a bit of it. Hogan NEEDS it in his next contract discussions as i'm petrified of losing him. But who else?

Surely we have the cap room to have a crack at a "big fish", we were fishing for one last season so why not this one?

GWS must be absolutely thrilled that they have Scully on their list eating up stacks of their cap for ever and ever with no end in sight.

Shiel would obviously be a fantastic addition for us.

Shiel plus Sloane or Aish or Selwood would be just unreal.

our first rounder is probably going to be towards the pointy end again so gives us a good position if these blokes stay up for grabs

Why not? Last I checked, we operated under the same salary cap as Carlton.

And I get the feeling Carlton haven't managed their payments well, Thoma, Judd, Gibbs, Murphy and Kreuzer would be eating a lot of cap although Judd will probably retire at seasons end.

And I think they've run out of brown bags

Yep - I don't think it's likely that we'll see another "environmental ambassador" - firstly because Pratt is gone, and secondly because Judd was a one-a-generation type player. Carlton have had no success at all in attracting free agents other than Daisy and have lost several, so I reckon they're not a club players are looking to get to. If they're the competition we have for players, I don't mind our chances.

Isn't this what our 'war chest' is for? Or have we used it on guns like Dawes and Clark?

I would like to think we'd have a big war chest, considering only a handful of our players are up to standard.

What happens when a player retires during the contract? Is a portion paid out like some form of mutual agreement? This would surely free up some dosh.

Not sure who we would be paying the big dollars to but the way I see it we will be wanting to keep the Tysons, McDonalds and Hogans of this world happy and with fat wallets.

Would throw what we can (hopefully we have a lot) at Shiel or Treloar.

Then, we play the success game

Sheil will be at Hawthorn next year.

He was injured

What is Coniglio's excuse?

Poor man's Toumpas

I'll still throw may hat in the ring to try and tempt Coniglio, despite the thoughts above of our ol' mate "Werridee".

Just reckon he might be our best, realistic chance of getting one of their better players.

Way to ruin the fun PB.

PB has a 0% record with these kind of calls. Pay no mind.

Yeah I'd hate to get Coniglio.

24 disposals, 10 tackles and a goal against Sydney

26 disposals, 8 takcles and 2 goals against us

Shiel's been my number 1 target for a couple of years now. MFC GET SHIEL!!

If he ends up at Hawthorn I'LL SPEW UP!!!

I think the rest of the AFL would join you.

Suggested trade from Richmond board:

''Hampson or Vickery to Brisbane. They are desperate for big men. Pick up Aish or their first pick. If we hpget their pick, trade it on to GWS and pick up Dylan Shiel.
Or go hell for leather for Dangerfield.''

lol. The way it's looking right now, Brisbane will have a top 4 pick.

Why the hell would they trade a pick that good for Hampson or Vickery?

No chance.

Lets face it, Coniglio, Shiel and Treloar are all kind of handy

There was one stage last year I thought Treloar could go on to be in the top 5 players in the game. He has the other two covered last year for disposals (27.6), tackles (5.6) and clearances (just under 6) a game. He would actually be my favourite to put in red and blue but can definitely see other points of view.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
