Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's 40 points we wouldn't have had last year. Excluding his score assists.

True, but imagine if he was kicking at over 50% efficiency. I'm sure he will get it up there eventually... I just found it funny that everyone focuses their vitriol on Watts.

There was a video posted in Instagram last week showing Hulk practicing his goal kicking at Adelaide Oval.

Very straight, methodical, and fluent. This was not the run up he uses on match day. It's one thing to train a player to change their natural kicking technique, but under match day pressure all that can go out the window and the player reverts to what is comfortable and trusted.

(And it's only his third game)

I agree, I spose I just want the complete "Champion" "Gun" Forward which we have lacked for such a long time.

Very happy with how he is going, but just mention this "Anomaly" as part of a discussion point! Which IMO does need to be worked on!

Just sayin!

Yes, but I think what has been demonstrated is that, actually, it doesn't need to be worked on.

The slightly wonky set shots are the only sign he's shown that he is a 20 year old that is holding up a whole AFL team's forwardline in his first 3 games. I think it's clear that the stutter is a product of nerves and not a deliberate approach.

Not sure if you're being serious, but he kicked a bag for Casey two years ago with precisely the same approach.

he'll fix his kicking action. I just want him to be able to nail goals from 50m. Not sure he can kick that far. had a shot from 45 a while ago and sprayed it bad. Early days so no big deal but geez it would be nice to see him smash one from outside 50m. love this kid.

Nup not buying it 1 I think Kicking style is ingrained from an early age, nothing to do with Maturity, All to do with developing a set shot routine!

I believe that this needs to be rectified ASAP!

Somebody beat me to it, but Jjjjosh Kkkkennnedddy's ssstttuttter hasn't served him too badly.

For those that refer to the six Jesse kicked for Casey, go have have a look at the goals from that match. Of the 6 goals, 5 of them were from set shots and his approach did not have a stutter in it. He was very fluid in his run up and nailed each one.

We need to make sure he gets back to something like that.

He's always had a bit of a skip in his run up. He had it in that game at Casey but it wasn't as pronounced as it was on the weekend.

This is an overreaction.

For the past two years we've barely even had an offensive threat. Now we have Jesse and Jeff actually playing a role as forwards I'm not gonna complain that they're kicking behinds. Plus, give him a little leeway in his third game with a drenched ball.

True, but it is a hell of a lot worse now then it was then. That one he missed in front goal had 3 or 4 stutters in it.

Everyone has off days Nita had the yeps from time to time, what he has kick 6.4 that's about AFL average .

It is not average for Garlett!

I saw him kick from 50 against the wind in the VFL.

It went backwards.

Nah just kidding, it sailed through.

There are players with perfect kicking actions that are inaccurate, it's all about comfort and confidence.

I am yet to see anyone completely overhaul their kicking style to much effect, let him do what he feels is comfortable and he will get the best results.

For what its worth, the thing I like most about Hogan is that he is a more than decent field kick and looks to bring his team mates into the game by passing it to someone in a better position when he is near the 50m arc.

The fluid/lazy kicking style of Jeff Gartlett has not yet been working for us, but no doubt he will eventually have a game where he is able to kick 6 and i really hope its against Richmond.

Nick Reiwold, Travis Cloke and Luke Breust are current big goal kickers who had horrendous patches in their careers where they could not hit the side of a barn at any distance. FFS he's only played three games.

I would be happy with Luke Bruest but I still wouldn't want Cloke or Reiwold kicking to save my life.

But I agree - 3 games . yikes...

Was just discussed on On the Couch.... but they also discussed Garlett... while everyone is bagging Watts over a couple of dropped marks at crucial times, Garlett has been kicking at 38% efficiency and has 0.5 from set shots in his total of 5.10 in three games. If Hogan and Garlett can get their acts together, we will be much better off... Watts is not the problem.

Sheahan or Brown: 'Will Watts play next week?'

Roos: (without any hesitation) 'ABSOLUTELY!'

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
