The bookies have responded in kind to Heeney's good form. He's down to $3.75. Hogan is steady at $9 - as he has been since before the pre-season and Brayshaw is still at $21. Wait until he gets a full game, he'll lay 10+ tackles and people will pay attention. It was a bit sketchy but we had a Brayshaw to Hogan goal in Adelaide on the weekend. So excited about both of these guys.

We haven't had a nominee since Viney in round 21 in 2013.

Heeney gets this week's gong. In an uncompromised draft system he would be playing in red and blue this year.

Exactly the player we desperately needed and Roos knew exactly what a talent he was when we put up our first rounder for him despite no assurance of getting pick 3 for Frawley.

Or, more likely, they were just making a statement about the inequity of Sydney getting him for peanuts.

Vs Richmond

Vandenberg 20 disposals 12 tackles 2 marks 1 goal

Or

Hogan 13 disposals 3 tackles 6 marks 2 goals (playing on best defender in the competition)

Or

Brayshaw 12 disposals 6 tackles 4 marks 1 goal

Surely one of these blokes will get given some recognition for their efforts this week...

I believe Van Demon is too old. I would love to see the Hulk be rewarded!

Jesse Hogan will win it this week. IMO.

The performance is starting to meet the media hype and MFC won.

It will take a good performance elsewhere to beat him

Brayshaw leading the club our tackles having only played ~60% game time all up. What a gun

VDB is 22

Hogan will get nominated this week for sure

surely Hogan will get it, I mean the guy ragged doll the best defender in the game hands down.

Cameron McCarthy (GWS) is more likely to take it out this week I suspect.

With 13 goals so far from the first four games of the year, he picked up 18 disposals, 6 marks and kicked 5 goals 2 against the suns this week. As much as I like Hogan, it would be hard to overlook that performance.

Amazing that with GWS losing Tyson, Bruce, Adams, Boyd, O'Rourke, Jaksch and others over the past few seasons that they still have an embarrassment of riches in nearly all parts of the ground.

I don't think Hogan's performance, on Alex Rance and against a finals side from last year, should be considered any worse than McCarthy's just because McCarthy kicked more goals against, who, Rory Thompson? Against a side bereft of confidence and totally out of form.

Nonetheless, I'm sure 5 goals is easy to read off a headline for those who DGAF about the MFC.

I'm not sure what the process is in regards to selection of nominees round by round, but wouldn't surprise me if they just look at the stats rather than have a panel of judges that watch all 9 games and examine the performances of each eligible player. More disposals and more goals would make it an easy choice for someone looking at the figures alone.

Which shows you why the award is a crock of shiite.

Just vote on it at the end of the year regardless of who gets the gong each week.

hoges also had 4 score involvements plus his 2 goals

Hogan will get the nod for this round. His performance on Friday was commanding and he took on and beat one of the best key defenders in the game in the wet.

Paddy Cripps going to go very close. Plenty of ball and leading tackler. Hoges was very impressive and 2 goals in the wet topped off by contested marks and score assists in wet conditions not a bad effort but I think Cripps will get the nod

I think it's well established by now that this award is a crock of [censored] (and has been a poisoned chalice for us anyway).

How many teams got nominated last year because they tore up the field playing against us? They never reward the player that dominates competent teams with good-to-great stats; instead, they reward the player who dominates against witches hats (I mean, Cripps was playing the Saints for crying out loud!)

It's pretty obvious to me who had the most special performance this round, but Hogan will be overlooked. I mean, he made last year's AA defender look like a rag doll.... but, you know, he didn't kick nine goals and have seventy eight disposals against a team with gaping holes all over their list.

I didn't see any of Mccarthy's game against GC (because who watches GWS v GC?) but I did see some of cripps and I thought he played a pretty great game. Unlucky not to win the medal ahead of that cat Murphy.

I also think the rising star having an age limit is ridiculous. It should just be an award for the best new player regardless of age.. think Barlow and Pods' first year.

Perhaps I am in the minority, but I really enjoy the Rising Star award and the weekly nominations.

I must stress that I find it 'enjoyable' and don't take it too seriously.

I think our boys might be a bit unlucky this week; Cripps was excellent and may take it out ahead of McCarthy. Hogan and Brayshaw's value to the team is not indicated by outside accolades like the RSA, but it is a nice little nod for an up-and-commer to receive.

Hogan, Brayshaw will get nominated at some stage this season and Demonland will acclaim the Rising Star Award!

I watched the whole game......don't judge me.....I live in Sydney, it was wet and three games live on TV.

McCarthy played well, the whole team did. All things considered Hogan played a better game than McCarthy but he can. As eluded to earlier Cripps will give Hogan a run this week.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
