Gold Coast finished where? 3rd last? Giving them a high pick in the PSD. Hopefully, Gold Coast don't play hard ball, offer unders, and try to get him through the PSD if we don't accept. That is what I would be doing if I were them anyway. And there is no way Carlton or Brisbane will match 650k a year, and even if they did, I don't think Howe would be too devastated.

Clubs generally don't do this sort of thing to each other. There is a thing called 'good will' and GCS know that if they burnt a rival club in such a manner it could potentially come back and bite them on the arse.

It rarely happens, yet is constantly mentioned Demonland every year...

I wonder if they'd put McKenzie up for trade and would we trade Howe for McKenzie? I'd want slightly more maybe.

Howe likes to swan about and take hangers.

McKenzie likes to swan about getting cheap possessions & kicking it long.

Not really a win there.

When Howe can't kick, I know which I'd prefer. At least McKenzie utilises it.

Personally I'd prefer Hall if he were on the table.

Didnt Prestia say publically he will be seeing out his contract with GCS a month ago, or have i missed something?

His manager did, but Prestia didn't. Until Prestia confirms it himself, it's still on.

just a bit twitchy trying to stay up in the hope of hearing something

Gold Coast have offered Howe $650,000 a season which we won't match. Means they have to trade with us to get the deal done.

He has to be traded no matter what because he is not a free agent.

I don't think 90% of football fans understand the trading system which has only been around for about two decades now. They just hear the words "free agency" and assume all players can just walk to wherever they like.

I took it to mean that the GoldCoast may have agreed terms with Howe, but now they must agree terms with us if they want to make it happen.

Think you've gone prematurely there, I read it as he has been offered a much better contract which Melbourne have no intention of offering him so he will now be traded.

If he was meaning free agency and Howe was a restricted free agent, they would only have to trade if we did match it which wasn't what he was implying.

Doesn't mean much if the club want to trade him.

I understand your point Clint but as for your comment "they....assume all players can just walk to wherever they like". Well the AFL is doing a good impression of just that. Ever since St Kilda played hard ball with Luke Ball but he still got to Collingwood by blatant draft tampering, any players with currency seem to be walking when and where they want to go. I think FA is redundant really, it is now just a vehicle for good players to get to top clubs and a proxy for the priority pick for bottom dwellers.

The point is they still need to be traded.

I understand the players usually get their way as to where they go but I still think people don't understand how trading works.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
