A friend was working at the MCG last week and came across a dumpster full of 2014 MFC membership scarves. Surely they could have been given away to a charity/community instead of going to landfill.

I have never been a fan of getting a new scarf every year anyway and have nearly run out of fellow MFC supporters to give them to. A MCG food/drink voucher or a credit to the Demon Shop would be a better idea.

My Essendon supporting friend who sent me the pics was happy to have a dig 'they can't even give them away' etc.

Disgraceful.

Why not earn some goodwill and get a few players to hand them out to the homeless on weekends?

You seriously have to wonder about the people employed in admin.

We could knit them together and make a throw rug?

Sorry.

Throw away line.

I choose to believe they went to goodwill with them but instead they got an Elaine Benes response, much like with her muffin tops, and she had no choice but to bin them as we don't have a Newman to eat them all.

Don't Hawthorn have a patch they send out to their members to put on their scarf? Wouldn't that make more sense that a re-design every year?

They tried to give them to charity but they said they weren't that desperate.

It was always going to be hard to get supporters on board after a decade of mediocrity.

I don't read a lot into it, we need results, I couldn't care how many scarfs are in the bin or how few supporters are on board.

Hopefully Roos can bring us results, that is why he is here, I have faith in him, the rest will fall into place when MFC start winning games.

I'd just like to point out that if we had a million members and ordered a million-and-sixty scarfs, we'd have to throw 60 in the dumpster.

That's no joke Biff. There was a dlander in the last couple of years who requested them because his missus was making a rug for his kid. Someone else can find the thread

Would we? What's wrong with:

A) giving them to the homeless/charity

B) offering them to volunteers to stitch together, we could do with more red and blue quilts in the crowds come game day

C) possibly returning them to the manufacturer for rebranding as 2015 scarves or;

D) at very least throwing them in the bin discreetly enough that we don't get caught!!!!

Count the boxes though CIP, 100 per box, there must be close to 1000 in there...

Most likely I would think they are unclaimed by members, not ordered for members who didn't exist, if that makes it a little better. But I still think how they got rid of them was poor.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
