Agree with all others 're is Dom is good.

Salem needs to find a lot more of the ball to be a breakout star, while Hogan is an unknown quantity, and Viney too much of a butcher when in possession at this stage to be a breakout 'star' of the competition.

I agree with the Viney comment. Though I can see him cleaning this up ala Jones. Besides, Priddis is one of the worst kicks and he won a brownlow.

People on this board overrate JKH way too much...

??? your post is the first to mention him in this thread.

Salem needs to get involved a lot more than he did last year.

I don't share the opinion as most here thinking he will be a really great player for us. Has he even cracked ten touches in a game yet?

Id prefer to keep the expectations low and be pleasantly surprised.

Cant go past hogan for a breakout star. Loved the way he smashed through the packs last game. He will be loved so much around here and I can't wait.

Agree he has shown little glimpse here and there but nothing to suggest he will be the break out star.

I want him in the midfield like he was drafted for..

My prediction is Tyson will go up another level this year. But long term i think Hogan will be the dominant key forward of the competition.

Salems looks very good. He's a silkier Dom Tyson.

Salem, Tyson, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Jones

Surely in 2-3 years our midfield will be among the best in the league?

If only we still had Martin...

Yep, I still don't understand why we got rid of Martin.

Compares pretty bloody well ...

He's the best of his draft year, and if he improves on last year, he'll be elite/AA/ Brownlow contender, etc, within a couple of years.

Vandenberg.....the minute I saw him play I knew....I thought By Jingos we've got one here!

I liked his post match just as much. Clearly sets high standards for himself.

He certainly looks the part. Good size and moves well.

Watts. Jack Watts.

Salem is quality

Viney will become Nathan Jones part 2

Tyson could be anything

Hogan requires no comment

Kent is a bit of an outsider, he definitely has some weapons

When I sleep I dream of Trengove winning a best and fairest

Nobody tipping Toumpas at this stage

JKH just a handy forward pocket for mine

look at the banner half are recycled players, ok with perhaps the exception of Tyson we aint that good and won't be this year Hogan still a kid about to try and do what a 23 plus could do, awkward kicking action and not quick

Dom Tyson's last six games of 2014 were absolutely first rate. On par or beyond the likes of Cotchin, Murphy, Dal Santo or Sidebottom.

He's a star, take it to the bank. Literally, if you're playing supercoach. His season average (hence price) was an excellent 94, but his final six rounds averaged 115.

Salem is trickier to predict. He only played 55% game time in 2014 on account of routine sub vests. But he's definitely got something to share.

Personally I'm expecting Viney to progress in the same kind of way that Jones did. Steady, disciplined addressing of specific deficiencies each season, until showing through as an all-round capable midfielder by his early-mid 20s. Not so much a breakout as an ever-growing dominance!

Hogan, well, it is complex, because people's expectations and anticipation of young key forwards are so complex. Jack Darling was barely managing a goal a game when he was one of the most celebrated young forwards in the AFL, on account of his work ethic and amount of 'disruption' caused. Tom Boyd is getting a million dollars a year because... umm... he has a particularly square jaw and looks very manly? I think this season we will be 'satisfied that we're onto something good', rather than watching a Jeremy Cameron style storm rolling through.

And for all that, I'm still most interested in seeing our list develop to the point of having a solid group of genuine AFL-quality players. Not necessarily stars, but week-in week-out reliable quality. A good environment for stars to shine in and kids to develop in.

Well fair to say Salem just sky rocketed up for me.

A fantastic game he was just so clean and crisp with the ball.

I still think injury free Trengove could improve out of sight, and really improve our side.

Toump showed good signs today, although i don't see him ever becoming A grade, but that doesn't mean he can't be an important part of our side.

Tyson and Hogan are the two obvious ones.

Watts, Kent and Howe have weapons that could make them stars, all three are burst and flashy players.

lets not forget Brayshaw and Petracca are genuine A grade talent.

Salem really has that 'cool customer' look to him that the really good players have. I think he has found his niche in defence. Many young players in the past have failed to live up to the 'future superstar' tag but Salem has the tools to be one. Let's wait and see.

I can't believe Pickering and Hutchison were still debating whether trading pick 2 for Tyson and Salem was the right move. Absolute amateurs.

We won that deal by so far it isn't even funny.

Cant believe people rate Josh Kelly so highly, hes done no more than Salem so far and shown nothing more either. Seems people drool over him cos he was taken at pick 2, who cares? Salem was pick 9 and Tyson pick 3

even if it was just a 1 for 1 dell Tyson for Kelly Id still say we came out on top

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
