Bound for Glory News has an article on each club's next "breakout star" ~

Your club's next breakout star

Apart from the fact that Melbourne hasn't produced many "stars" of any kind in recent memory, I think one contender might have been overlooked although the BFG choice is a reasonably fair one:-

Melbourne Christian Salem

Ive backed Christian Salem since round one of the TAC Cup two years ago. I firmly believe that he was not only the best midfielder in the 2013 draft, but had the potential to be the best player in his draft class.

With Christian Petracca and Alex NealBullen facing serious injuries, Salem wont have as much competition for a spot in the side. His intra-club form off the half back line looked extremely promising.

Salems looks very good. He's a silkier Dom Tyson.

Salem, Tyson, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Jones

Surely in 2-3 years our midfield will be among the best in the league?

If only we still had Martin...

Salem does look very good. Needs to get more of it - not that I'm worried about that right now... young kid and all - but when he has it you know it's going to put to good use.

Love Salem and think he's going to be a gun for us. Not this year, maybe not next year, but when he bulks up, he's going to be a beast.

I'm expecting steady improvement from him this year and am looking for him to get a bit more of the ball - both inside and out.

One of the highlights from him last year (aside from the obvious Essendon heroics) was against GWS. He was cleaned up by Josh Hunt when he was going in for a loose ball, this laid him out flat. Salem immediately leapt to his feet and went after the contested ball again, only to be cleaned up and laid-out by Mumford. Salem took two huge hits by the two biggest players on the ground, and tenaciously leapt to his feet again after each one. He didn't win either contest but showed a desire to get in there after a very hot ball. When his frame fills out and he adds a few more kgs, he'll be a beast.

As you know I have had quite a few chats with Christian, he is a smiling assassin, loves the tough stuff, from training when Brayshaw took the head knock, it was Salem who drove him into the ground. He is nearly at his playing weight now, which is around the 85 mark

I suppose he means Stefan?

mmmmm love me some Christian Salem

Will never forget that play on the boundary line vs Port in Alice Springs... not many players are capable of pulling something like that off

If Hogan can stay on the park, I think he will be our next breakout star.

Salem will get plenty of the ball at half back this year.

How they can overlook Hogan is beyond me, big, strong forward who is a excellent kick and mark don't come around too often.

I don't think Salem will be a big ball winner, 15 to 20 disposals will be a good game for him because his disposal should tear teams apart.

Dean Kent has the tools to be a breakout but not sure he has the head in the right space...

Bound for Glory might be waiting for a bit more proof of Hogan's abilities on the big stage. Shouldn't be long now.

Add Kent and Newton to that list of midfielders.

And Stretch, JKH and ANB.

Probably going to be difficult for Kent unless he moves further up the ground for a midfield role where he can get involved more.

Dom Tyson surely has to be mentioned also, at the age of 21, 35 games with 20 goals.

In his first year without injury in 2014 he played 22 games averaging 23.7 disposals. 11 browlow votes

I don't know how that compares to other players in his category but....

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
