Either way will probably work out for us. If he stays then he's bought in and I'd expect his game to develop, if he's off we'll get a solid player in return. Either way team culture improves. I watched the replay this morning and found myself hoping he stays.

Howe has some special party tricks but plays the game when it suits him. If he had Petterd's defence inside 50 (who was influential in that area) he would be a top-5 player.

That's the long and short of it. Clearly they're trying to instil a two-way brand of footy in him by playing him back but he's not buying in enough for mine..

Out.

The clear mantra Roos will be sending this year is "if you don't buy in, you're out."

Too many players aren't buying in often enough, and sadly it's a big chunk of the senior group. Howe is a huge part of that.

Has to go.

The club chose to play him in 87 out of the last 88 games from 2012 to now, including all games coached by Paul Roos. I reckon there's a fair bit of "buy in" from both the player and the club.

I suspect his future just boils down to price. The club is likely to want to keep him if the price is right. If someone else wants to pay him more, that's the nature of professional football and good luck to him.

If he really is testing the market at $700k, good luck to him and whatever club takes him. They'll need it.

We'll be within our right to demand a first rounder if he's seemingly so valuable.

Several posters have indicated that they are ambivalent about Howe's future at Melbourne. I won't sit in the fence .... I want him to be traded, and I'll back our current administration to get someone in who will improve our team, regardless of who / what pick we get in the deal. Attitude is what counts!

How many times have we seen average players get oveepaud long contracts and then not perform to expectation?

Personally its a no, move him on while he has value.

While I'm happy for him to stay, I think the club has shown their hand from the start - if they thought he was important to our future then they would have probably made more of an effort to meet the 'demands' he has asked for. Clearly the club views him as expendable and have offered him a contract that reflects this.

You didn't see Salem, Brayshaw, Hogan et al waiting until the end of the year - we offered them the right deal that reflects their importance to us going forward and they signed up quickly.

Seems Howe headed for the sunny surroundings of Carrara.

Not unhappy if true! One trick pony that kicks the "odd goal"

Hopefully trade something good as a result!

Posted

So silly to call him a one trick pony...

Excellent intercept mark as well as a hanger-merchant

Good athleticism and kicks with penetration

Gets very few possessions and doesn't tackle or chase.

ok...one and a half !!

damn fine turnoverer of the ball to boot as well !! is that another trick ?

I rate Howe as a player and I certainly hope that opposition teams rate him highly when entering into a trade negotiation.

GWS and Gold Coast need someone like Howe. He'd be starting 18 for both of them and exemplifies the most marketable element of our game: the speccy.

I'd expect to see him on posters, calendars, t-shirts and billboards all over the northern towns.

I think he is a pure wingman.

His best marks are there.

The goal in the 3rd quarter was the best bounce/ clearance of the year.

He is a hard tackler ,good kick ,iffy decision maker.

I hope he stays.

I've thought this for a while. He'd be a nightmare matchup on the wing & a great target when bringing the ball out of defence

To me he remains the most frustrating player on the list. More raw talent than most. Less concentration & application than most

Howe for Prestia. Thanks very much.

That was my thought.. However, I think Prestia is worth a whole lot more than Howe..

Prestia had 8 games (Knee) in 2015 average of 27.1 disposals (14 contested), tackles at 4.7 per game 62% disposal efficiency.. Is this what the MFC need moving forward? I personally think yes..

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
