I have reports from a WCE paid official over in Perth (don't ask who) that they are extremely confident in getting Dean Kent over to Perth at seasons end. Have had scouts at preseason training multiple times and will monitor his progress this year and discuss and decide what he is worth to give up at seasons end.

Take it as gospel or rumour but wanted to inform all you Demonlanders of what I heard.

I hope that scouts are looking at all our players, makes me more confident that after a couple years we may have some talent on the list.

The players wont want to leave if we start winning and become more competitive. They have been through the tough times together and if they are fair dinkum then they deserve some reward together.

I have changed the title. When I saw "West Coast Sniffing" I was thinking of an entirely different subject.

To be fair they weren't sniffing they were smoking..

Kent will step it up this year and want to remain part from the Demons resurgence, I have faith in him. Plus he's from country Perth, we all know country boys are loyal.

Well they'll be paying out of their eyeballs for him considering he's contracted until the end of 2016.

Gives us the upper hand if a trade is on the table.

Hope he stays loyal, Kent JKH and Garlett can become the new three amigos this year.

That's free agency

Tom Boyd has changed the decor

The MFC just have to start winning games. Simple, or else players will jump each year with deals presented...

I have learn't from the Scully and Mitch Clark saga is don't ever underestimate any player leaving now days especially when we think they are happy here and all that. Footy is business these days and as much as we all think Kent is happy which im confident he is too he might think differently. There will be dollars involved and closer to family aswell.

In saying i have full faith in the club now with Roos and Goodwin on board in where this club is going. With our young talent starting to come through i would have thought being around the club for the next 6-10 years would be pretty exciting.

That's why I have never been confident in Hogan staying.... I'll just try my best not to get too attached to him. That way every year he stays is a bonus

Edit: no idea why that quoted twice

Spot on Daz. Wave enough money and anyone would think twice. I really hope your last sentence proves to be the stronger drawcard

Hogan's back issue might be a big plus in him staying. The amount of flying playing for a WA team may well be an issue for his long term career aspirations.

As for Kent, well he's yet to lock down a starting 22 position at Melbourne. He has some good attributes so lets see how he goes this year.

All clubs monitor every other clubs players, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't.

That last sentence puts it all into perspective as well. I'm certain our own scouts are out monitoring players, particularly at interstate clubs, and doing the same due diligence. It's the way the landscape is and, as someone said earlier, we need to start winning more games to hold on to these players.

We have the recruiters to thank for this, they plucked this bloke from the middle of nowhere. He wasn't even selected in the WA under 18s. But our recruiters didn't take much notice of this and they backed themselves in what they saw. We spent draft pick 48 on him and if he really wants to leave the club who have given him an opportunity, that will say a lot about Kent.

Whether he stays or goes, well done to the recruiters.

This was one draft pick that was influenced massively by Mark Neeld, one of the few things the fella did that he didn't get recognition for.

Have to agree with this. Credit where credit's due. He also had a big hand in landing Dawes and Clark ( ... and Gillies, Byrnes and Rodan?!).

That said, Stef Martin and Jared Rivers leaving also had a fair bit to do with Mark Neeld.

Would've liked to see Bennell given another year too, but I suspect Neeld thought he was too soft and cut him free.

Back to the topic though, Kent looks to be a real find. Like most others here, I'm expecting a really good year from him this year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
