Misson's comments of interest:

* Frost to start running next week!

* Kent in full training next week! Ahead of Vanders and Salem, just needs to get fitness back.

* Petracca has started running fluently. Stated that most guys coming back from ACLs carry a significant limp.

The Gods have finally changed their tune!!

So Frost has actually gone out a week but Grimes has come in six weeks. Can only assume Jack is part gecko and has regenerated his thumb or perhaps it wasn't actually broken in the first place.

Out of all those still injured I think we are missing Salem the most. The kid is all class

Of those still injured I think we are missing the most,

1 Frost plays back - forward- 2nd ruck and can run

2 vandenBerg - run and hardness

3 Salem - class

4 Trengove

5 Petracca

6 Pedersen

7 Newton

Edit: I left out Kent I would have him above Trengrove - sorry

Colin Garland (hand) – test
Jack Grimes (thumb) – test
Jesse Hogan (hamstring) – test
Aaron vandenBerg (hamstring) – 2 weeks
Christian Salem (hamstring) – 3 weeks
Dean Kent (hamstring) – 4 weeks
Sam Frost (toe) – 6 weeks

Looks like we will be near full strength for about the last 7 matches. Unless more injuries happen. Which they will.

WTF Grimes, 9 days ago they said 6-8 weeks... does this mean he is on the cards for the WC game?

Of those still injured I think we are missing the most,

My thinking on who we need most (and will play this year)

In order my top 6 are:

1 Hogan - well duh

2 vandenBerg - run and hardness

3/4/5 Salem - class / Garland - as good but different to Salem / Kent - I need to see what others find obvious

6 Frost - Im a Gawn/Spencer 2 ruck kind of guy

+ also said Trengove will have another scan late July to decide when he starts running.

Think we haven't missed Frost all that much as we have good depth with Garland, Dunn, Mcdonald, H etc. Having said that I would have liked to see him getting games and developing.

Don't rate Kent?

Trengoves hard to rate because he is a bit of an unknown same with Petracca.

Interesting comment from the mid season review with Roos - talked really positively about Newton "no doubt he is going to improve a lot..."

1. VandemBerg

2. Salem

3. Frost

4. Kent

Sorry YD I missed Kent, so I do rate him at 4 above Trengove on my list. Nice pick up. I have edited by earlier post. Thanks

In all seriousness, when was the last time we had a player debut in a final?

Sometime in the roaring twenties would be my guess.

I'm pretty sure the roaring twenties was the last time we played finals... or so it feels

Grimes is superhuman. What the hell?

I still think that of all the injured players we miss Kent the most. His replacements up forward leave a lot to be desired.

According to Misson, "Grimesy broke that thumb and he had an operation. He had plates and screws put in, rather than wires, so thats going to dictate that hes able to come back earlier."

Much better than the one they had on the Age website a couple of days ago. On the basis of the latest list we should have a few putting their hands up for a place in the team with a couple more not too far away.

Kent?

vandenBerg?

Look I rate vandenBerg but he's the type of player that everyone praises in his first season saying geee we need more like him and then by his third season he's a list clogger that needs to be delisted. The obvious deficency in his game compared to other demonland whipping boy favourites is his displosal efficency.

vandenBerg 57.1%

Bail 66.7%

McKenzie 77.8%

M. Jones 82.1%

Grimes 88.5%

I think VandenBerg is the real deal.

His presence, pressure and poise at AFL level after an interrupted pre-season has been amazing. Give him a couple of pre-seasons refining his craft and engine under a good development regime (as opposed to Ainsley!) will have him flourish in a Barlow like way... an great find.

I understand what you are saying - we have seen these types before - but VDB for me thus far has shown some extreme influence on a number of occassions, what he has done is not 'flash in the pan' stuff. It might be a bit early but I reckon he's a bit of a goer. The main thing is that he plays with the hard-as-nails attitude that Jones, Vince, Brayshaw, Viney, Dawes, Dunn, McDonald, Hogan and Cross play with.. this is the attitude that takes us to the next level. We have had others in the past with the attitude but not the ability (eg Magner) but I'm thinking vandemon isn't one of these

IMO his kicking was fine during the NAB Cup and first couple of games. It then went pear-shaped.

This tells me he can kick but have no idea why this skill has suddenly (and fingers crossed, temporarily) deserted him

No, that stat doesn't tell you anything.

For one, it's disposal efficiency, not kicking efficiency. So theoretically the low value could be because his handpassing is appalling.

However, as has been done to death on this site, the DE statistic is a waste of space and says very little about a player's ability to dispose of the ball.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
