MFC injury list - 2015

Pretty well our first-choice HB line.

Not sure how much any of these are preventable. Note that the hamstrings etc. are all across the younger players. Short of not playing or training, not sure what more could/should be done, it just takes time for bodies to build up to the load of AFL.

Does seem to be a league-wide problem though, there are more than a few teams with injury lists that are as long/longer than ours.

Grimes is a depth player now, just as Matt Jones is. Handy back up, but an inherently flawed footballer. Edited by AdamFarr

I think VandenBerg is the real deal.

His presence, pressure and poise at AFL level after an interrupted pre-season has been amazing. Give him a couple of pre-seasons refining his craft and engine under a good development regime (as opposed to Ainsley!) will have him flourish in a Barlow like way... an great find.

Not to mention the disposal efficiency statistic is probably the most misleading and pointless stat going around. He does need to improve his game though and that's a decision making thing.

For our long term growth, I think not getting multiple games into Salem and kent at the moment is the most telling. They are crucial for us going forward, far more so than Frost.

Disagree. As a bigger bloke, he will probably need more time. At the very least, it's just as important that we are getting games into him too. Edited by AdamFarr

No, that stat doesn't tell you anything.

For one, it's disposal efficiency, not kicking efficiency. So theoretically the low value could be because his handpassing is appalling.

However, as has been done to death on this site, the DE statistic is a waste of space and says very little about a player's ability to dispose of the ball.

Huh? I wasn't talking about the DE stat and I happen to agree with you. I was commenting on how Vandemon's kicking seems to have gone to the shitter lately

When 20 touches and 5 tackles becomes the expectation, as it is with all inside mids, we'll see how he stands up.

I want to believe, but I've been scarred by a succession of players who look good with no expectations and then fall away.

Evans, Nicholson, Terlich, MJones the recent examples.

I can't remember any of those guys dominating games in the same way vandenBerg has though. Maybe Nicholson once in 2011 when we beat Richmond, and Evans' last quarter against GWS in 2013, but that's about it.

Yep, not apt comparisons.

Yesdont really trust the AFL injury list - Fitzy still test didn't he play 1-2 weeks ago?

Still good to see Frost, Grimes, Kent and Vanders getting closer. Salem obviously a little annoying.

Frost and Kent are a little unclear - they have been out for so long that I believe Mission said they will need a solid chunk of training before selection.

So maybe add 2-3 weeks on top? Vanders hopefully can come in for Essendon.

Hopefully we can get through the next 1-2 weeks without injury.

Drove past Goschs today and saw Vanders, Salem n Kent all jogging at a decent clip. Kent still looks very sore though. Could not believe the size of his upper legs, almost looks a little overweight but i guess that can happen when you dont train for 10 weeks. Great to see them all have a run though!

Can't wait to see these three back in the side. Best 22 by a long shot.

The only point of difference is Frost - listed as 5 weeks on the MFC website, complete with quotes from Misson

(I've re-ordered the list)

Frost has been out for a long time and just started running outside so that might explain the difference. Still 5 weeks though!

Maybe 3 weeks training then 2 weeks increasing game time at VFL level?

Or

2 weeks running followed by 3 weeks of training

Frost's injury was 11 weeks, 2 days ago FFS

Frost might just be "season" as he would be available for round 20. Assume thats 3-4 weeks of the season. He might as well benefit from playing Full Back at Casey for their last 3 weeks.

Hopefully Harry won't feel the need to compete with Frost's Bob Marley-proportioned toe injury.

Well, does anyone here actually know just what injury Frost suffered

All we hear is "toe"

Some here seem to think he is being a big if a wimp, but really what would they know?

He'll be back in time for the finals.

Ohh hang on ...

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
