Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And within this post should be a reality check for all Deelanders

Sure it's bad news and unfortunate for Christian and us as supporters but there could be far worse things happen to him

Dedicated young man as he showed last season and the ACL'S aren't as devastating as they used to be

For all those feeling devastated and gutted and the world is ending, you woke up this morning and took a breath = it's a good day

Thanks PSD

I second that, fascinating insight and i've learnt a lot fro your posts. I also second the idea of raising the draft age. For me its a no brainer.

However for many reasons it may never happen (though it is interesting hat it has happened in the NBL) so perhaps an alternative is drafted players are not allowed to play an AFL game 'till their second year and their training loads are modified (as i guess they are to an extent already but if there would be limit to how much you could modify it currently where there there is an expectation they'l play AFL footy).

Webber i'd be interested to know if doing the above would decrease the likelihood of injuries such as ligament damage, ACLs, PCLs, osteo pubis etc.

A couple of different issues here. Traumatic injuries such as ACL rupture, hamstring tear, shoulder dislocation and more are hard to objectively blame on youth, other than the fact they statistically happen more commonly in the young 'uns. There are theories that relate to pure tensile strength of the structures being greater as we move into mid twenties, then the 'balance' and harmonised function of the muscles being something that improves with age. I'd say it's a combination. Then again, they'll always happen at any age because sometimes Barry Hall is running at you and there's no getting out of the way. Crunch, crack, rip. 'Overuse' injuries such as Osteitis Pubis and stress fractures are a function of repeated load on a structure where it is still arguably immature, and where the dynamic balance as mentioned above are sub optimal. Something like OP is both prevented, subverted and treated much better now than 15 years ago, because we've targeted the muscle function and coordination of the muscles acting at the pelvis....Abs, gluts, adductors, hams, quads ('core stability'). Weight bearing loads are managed more diligently now to keep ahead of bony stress reactions much better also. There's no accounting for individual variation though, and sports science is constantly looking for correlates between certain injuries and specific physical markers, e.g. hamstring flexibility and hams tears. As such, would love to know if there is something in Petracca's physical makeup that could have indicated he might do his ACL in his teens. No such knowledge as yet.

Sorry Webber no insult or innuendo intended. As a man of simple words lets just say that i am not sure that I understand your opinion but gee its an impressive one.

And there I was thinking you might have been just a presumptuous smart**se.

Way to completely misinterpret what I said. I don't give a stuff what anyone's feelings are but to put down others because they are understandably upset at the news is ridiculous.

Have to laugh at your "level-headed" comment as well considering your posting history on here, you'd have to be one of the more bipolar posters on the site.

which one of the two of us is crying buckets of tears mate

Jones and 15-20 others

Really?

You would rather that our number 2 draft pick, an 18 year old kid described as the best youngster in the country, suffer a serious knee injury in his first pre-season than 15-20 other players on our list?

I would have thought Petracca would be up there in our most valuable players (based on market value) and would be in the leading group of players who I'd least like to see suffer a serious knee injury.

Of course, if you are just looking at 2015 in isolation, others would provide more value to the team this year. However you can't just automatically conclude that he will be cherry ripe from 2016 and beyond. I absolutely hope it's a one-off occurence but you can never be sure with knee injuries.

Had my acl done in 1993 as a 34 year old after a rugby hit in the states (playing for Lynchburg)

Still playing superrules and amo thirds 22 years later very happily

Sorry to hear that. It is just awful, that someone can be so upset by others, that they end, or attempt to end their life.

My commiserations also SWYL.

Bullying is appalling in whatever form. Usually the resort of cowards.

Kindness, sympathy and understanding are undervalued virtues. Particularly kindness.

yeh that's the unknown part - i am looking in isolation because the idea that the player is now damaged forever is not one I am prepared to entertain

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
