Christian Petracca - Season Ending Knee Injury

Still shattered this kid wont be lighting up the MCG this season.

have no doubt he wouldd be playing vs Gold Coast in 7 days if it wasn't for that damn knee injury.

Maybe all the false dawns have affected me, but I always feel vaguely sick when people use words like "lighting up the G" when forecasting the performance of an 18 year old.

Balance of probability says it wouldn't have happened like that. Usually when 18 year olds shine, it's when they've come in to a strong side under little pressure.

Yeah fair enough and I agree

The phrase 'lighting up the MCG' was more in reference to his style of play, the size , explosiveness and goal kicking ability. Certainly didn't mean he was going to waltz in and be All Australian in his rookie season.

I wouldnt use the phrase 'lighting up the MCG;' for Angus Brayshaw for example, as his game is more old fashioned in a very good way of course.

Apologies if this has already been answered in the thread. What are the chances of re-injury to the surgically repaired knee? Daniel Menzel springs to mind as being desperately unlucky, Robbie Gray would be the poster boy for post ACL success.

extra 2 years for the Truck

If you mean contract extension then thats fantastic news!

Anyone notice a trend? Skipper Jones was the first to sign off then the likes of JKH, Salem and Brayshaw and now Petracca all signed extensions. Just shows these kids see a big future at this club and want to be part of something special.

Jeremy Howe could learn a thing or two.. btw i also get the feeling they wont even rush into signing him. Get all the young talent out of the way first is what im seeing.

Now this is where (and possibly why) things can get out of hand in these forums... people jumping to conclusions based on, essentially, nothing. You go from asking a question ("if you mean...") to definitively stating his contract extension as fact ("Skipper Jones was the first to sign off then the likes of JKH, Salem and Brayshaw and now Petracca all signed extensions").

While it would be nice if he has extended, there is nothing on the club site, nothing on Twitter, nothing on Facebook to say so... just a one liner on this site from some anonymous person.

Heard a rumour that Melbourne approached Petracca about extending his contract and Petracca's camp put the talks off. Anyone else heard anything about this?

I know his parents and he is a honest kid, dont worry about him. He will not be leaving Melbourne. His parents are looking after him at home and he is recovering nicely.

However, there is a reason why Brayshaw & Petracca did not sign on at the same time. (Nothing sinister at all)

Not having all your crucial players come out of contract at the same time?

Must be something sinister...

It was no secret that at draft time, his family had concerns about us as a club, and the club had to sit down with them to allay their fears.

I'd be rapt if he re-signs for a couple of more years asap.

Really? It was no secret? Do you have a link to back this claim up?

Sounds like another internet rumour to me.

It was mentioned on draft night. When the club met with the Petracca family prior to the draft, as is the norm, the Petraccas had issues with us as a club. If you hadn't noticed, young players and their managers are getting more choosey about where they want to play.

Given that he has a serious injury, the logical thing for him and is management to do to ensure financial security, is to extend his contract with us.

If he doesn't extend his contract this year, I'd start to worry.

IIRC one of the draft night commentators said Petracca's parents were concerned about the development program at Melbourne originally.

They don't have such concerns any more, particularly with McCartney on board.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
