Colin Garland

Surprised no one has mentioned this. Dropped from the leadership group and is a free agent at the end of the year. By all reports miles from the pack in terms of fitness.

Alarm bells ringing? Will he be going? Thoughts ? Is it a loss if he goes?

Had not heard that he was unfit. Thought he was wanting to concentrate on his footy, which could be club code for "we have some better options". He may want to go but I hope we and he have a season that makes him want to stay.

Or he just might want to concentrate on his own game just like Roos mentioned...

A slightly better man's Alex Georgio! Not in my best 2015 team, says plenty! Would want to have a MONSTER year to justify staying on list IMO

I tend to think that Col just had a terrible 2014 and wants to get his game back together without the distractions this year. If he can have an injury-free year and recapture the form he showed in 2013 then he'll be a regular in the side and that's a lot more important than a spot in the leadership group.

I go all the way to Maroochydore to file a training report only to be met with this throw away!

Garland is ready to play a big part in our resurgence. He is going to balance out a backline that includes Dunn, McDonald, Jetta, Grimes, and Lumumba beautifully. He was tearing it apart up north, and I'm so glad we have him fit and firing... you'll have to wait until the real stuff starts to retract your misfire!

I really hope you're right.

No doubt he can play the game, his 2013 season was one of the few bright things amongst a terrible season.

He never appeared fully fit last year and his performances were average - hopefully just a by-product of that.

Idiot. You're basing that from a poor 2014 where he was rushed back in to our very average team.

He's been a good young player dealing with injuries, to a solid role player, to a sensational player in 2013.

Even with a disastrous year in 2015 he'd be on the list. Versatile 3rd tall defenders with decent skills and pace don't grow on trees.

Couldn't agree more. Some people have very short memories. If he can replicate 2013 the team will be very much better for it.

Garand chose to leave the leadership group. Was reported in club website. ... "Defender Colin Garland, who opted out of the running for this year’s leadership group, and James Frawley, now at Hawthorn, are the only other changes from last year."

Suspect he wants to focus on his footy. Will be a serious player this year

I was also wondering about Col. I kept sifting through the training reports and he rarely gets mentioned. I'm a big fan and hope he can return to his 2013 form.

Christ, you could set your watch by how often you get it completely wrong.

Looking forward to seeing Frawley play for the cats this season?

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
