Fair comment, cleaner inside of a contest than either.

That is a reasonable start. All 3 are elite users of the football.

Toumpas tends to panic a bit atm, I would argue that Balic has better composure.

In saying that, I'm not locked in on Balic, I just prefer him to Parish, I don't think it's a strong field of mids this year.

It would be ideal to take a tall first up, then draft a mid with our second pick - hopefully Gresham or Lovell.

I'd be happy to trade a player for a mid Rnd1 pick & try to grab tucker there. take Weid first up.

It's interesting to see all those serious concerns about Jake Lever's injury history last year at draft time were well founded.

If the Trengove trade went through, he'd be on our list.

I was hoping we could of picked him up, he looked the goods.

Also interesting to see many were worried about his disposal and that doesn't seem a problem...

Fills me with confidence that he was the 3rd player we were looking at. Not because he isn't on our list but because it means our recruiting staff are looking in the right direction now and know how to spot the goodies.

I'm assuming Weitering and Schache are firming as the likely first two picks.

So the only spanner in the works would appear to be whoever out of Brisbane/Gold Coast/Carlton finish third last.

Can't see us winning any more games than Essendon for the remainder of this year, based on how they played against Port.

As they are now...

Lions - Schache

Suns - Weitering

Blues - Francis

Leaves us to swoop on Parish

Nice, another Toumpas to save us from our woes. Hurrah!

I didn't see anything in Toumpas prior to being drafted. Admittedly I only watched the Nationals.

Some rated that carnival highly, he was captain. Personally, I didn't think much of it.

I like the contested types, thought Wines was the logical option, had a great nationals, displayed grunt and aggression - which we needed.

Lovell and Gresham are my picks so far, I'd be willing to trade an early pick - for 2 picks in the teens.

Lovell is definitely the stand out mid in my eyes.

Sorry, just any hope i used to have in the draft is long gone now and personally i believe if we go to the draft again that we will struggle to improve at all on-field whilst at the same time probably diminishing any young talent we do have due to the lack of senior players and leaders

Let it go man, we get it.

it wont be let go until we start getting results from our skinny draftees. As simple as that

The Dees are set on Darcy Parish according to the number one player manager I spoke to at the weekend.

Champion Data guy on SEN just then said Parish was the guy for Melb.

Rated above average both inside and outside possessions during champs.

Also stated no clear standout mids in the draft who aren't part of an academy.

A couple of skinny kids Salem & Brayshaw seem to have a bit of a future.

That's a fair assessment of this years midfield crop. There are some good players there, but few standouts.

Parish seems as natural a fit for us this year in much the same way Brayshaw was last year.

Weren't you saying not long ago we should go really harder James Aish...

Parish goes alot harder at the contest then Aish. Watch the Champions games and you will realize that because its quite obvious you are only comparing him to Toumpas because he is skinny outside mid.

Unbelievable comment

Aish has a couple of years in the system and is already showing he can withstand the AFL game. Parish is unproven at AFL level

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
