This is so me.

Blease - runs and breaks lines - adds all that pace.

Pretty much amounted to nothing for us.

Ex-Dee Sam Blease now on Trade Radio, saying he was frustrated by Melbourne's game-plan this year and he's been training hard to work on his deficiencies.

Blease adds that Melbourne are an outstanding club and Paul Roos is an outstanding coach but he just didn't fit in.

"I've had a few little enquiries from clubs, my manager is dealing with them - a couple (clubs) in Melbourne, we'll see how it pans out." - Blease.

Probably didn't like that we were so defensive, whilst he is all attack.

I for one rated him and thought he added real spark, but yeah.

Will be a player somewhere else; Stef Martin.

just thought it was a decent comment from the lad.

Hes not for us, and he may not progress. I didnt rate him highly seemed too limited , but take his words as they are. He obviously voiced a respect for Roos, the Club , which i sense many are now garnering.

This pretty much sums it up for me. He doesn't fit the style of football Roos wants to play and he has too many glaring weaknesses that he hasn't been able to overcome.

Let's hope we can get something decent for him.

Wow that was good radio

I remember after a game of school footy vs Sam in 2008, a bit of push and shove broke out and when it was broken up he yelled "remember my name." lel

The kid can play, but there is no point hanging on to players the coach doesn't like and won't play. We'll get next to nothing for him, and then presumably watch him kick 5 goals against us next year for his new club.

Yeah!

Wait...wait...you're serious.

Oh.

I made a couple of notes from the interview.

  • Said he'd been training with an AIS running coach for the last couple of months, 4 times per week and feels as though he's making inroads with his endurance.
  • He said that for the first 1/2 of the year that he and Roos didn't see eye to eye, but then backtracked a little and said he was a great coach.
  • Also said that he isn't naturally defensive.

So there you have it. The reason Sam isn't going to be on the MFC list this year is because......he cannot run out a game, listen to the coach or defend.

Not too surprised about that really...but i do find it funny that its only the last couple of months that he's been doing extra running. Maybe the penny's dropped that his career is hanging by a thread.

In a different team, I reckon Blease could be very good. A bit nervoous about this decision, although in Roos I trust.

Would fit in well at the Tigers I reckon.

...and that after 5 years on an AFL list, his running is still poor, he still burns teammates and has bad skills when at mod-high pace.

But at least he rates himself.

Funny he pumped himself up saying he reckons he would add a lot to the tigers with his speed..

err ok Sam you have to get picked up first...

Some guys just don't get it. He should have been doing that from the moment he realised his endurance needed work, not when he was told he wasn't wanted at the club.

Further proof that we don't need him on our list.

I don't have much ill will towards, he hasn't come on as we'd have hoped but unlike many others who have ditched us he hasn't bagged the club or coaches. In the right environment and game plan he could work out for another team.

Another failed top 20 pick .... How many is that since 2007???

Surely our past recruiters & development people should never be allowed to work in another afl club ever again.... wtf disgrace!

I hope they DO go to other clubs, and continue true to form!

Kids obviously got a big attitude problem. Wants to do it his way or no way at all... Glad hes gone.

One of those, like Sylvia IMO who would like to play AFL byt don't want to enough to put in the hard work and make the necessary sacrifices

we'll probably regret this one

Already do, he was taken before Zaha if memory serves.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
