Bub how many wines you had?

Roos has as good as confirmed on the radio this evening that we will be drafting Brayshaw and Petracca tomorrow. He made this claim on the basis that the interviewers were adamant that McCartin would be picked by St. Kilda. A decent midfield at last? Now all we need is to focus on another tall that might slip through to pick 40!

What were his exact words 'CB'

If it's the bit about Petracca not getting to Collingwood, well all that means as others have pointed out, he won't get past GWS. It doesn't guarantee much else.

Although it is looking like we will pick up the 2 mids.

I thought your last post was over 0.05. All good...carry on.

Come on guys, Roos is not implying anything about GWS with the Petracca comment. He has tongue-in-cheek declared that if Petracca isn't picked up by the Saints, we will. Gladly. If you can't read between the lines there then get a new hobby!

He also mentions that Petracca, Brayshaw and McCartin are the best 3 players in the draft "at the moment", and that we'll be picking a combination of those two.

Yeah any combination of 2 of the 3 means we can at least sleep sound till we find out what combo, thanks Roosy.

That interview made my day/week/draft and trading period. Stoked that we'll be bringing in Brayshaw and McCartin/Petracca.

I thought that would be the case, but my MFCSS tried to convince me otherwise. Happy days lads

Oh you have a gripe? Latched onto media reports? All I was saying there was that it could all be thrown out the window, IF saints take Mccartin. Substantiation? What you want names and addresses of sources? Come on!!!! If no-one reported on here what they heard all you would be talking about is bananas, tv shows and dirty pictures!

I've never heard you talk about bananas ... :)

Almost tempted to pay homage to Rangey and institute a poll but a simple question will probably suffice.

If hypothetically  we grabbed Brayshaw and Petracca, who would actually be upset ??

I wouldnt...seems a good get. Something to work with ^_^

go on, do it. Poll, who will the saints f... up over ?

I am pumped.

This is turning out to be a bloody good trade/draft period for us.

Particularly when you add Goodwin and McCartney into the mix.

Go the mighty, fighting Demons. Bring on 2015.

We're back. Almost.

except that the top sides have a way higher strike rate of turning their high draft picks into champions - see the Hawks: Hodge, Roughead, Franklin, Lewis, Ellis, Rioli.. they get full value. Surely you can't pretend that's just luck?

It's good recruitment. It's favouring the right things in players, it's finding out who wants to play football for a living, and whose body will let them do it, and whose style of play means they can win contested footy.

I would say we are getting better at favouring the right things, but I can't deny there being luck involved, they are teenagers asked to immerse themsleves in a vocation they have little idea whether they will excel at.

Just how I felt back in '09 when we landed Scully and Trengove.

Ive been reading those saints forums on bigfooty. According to them Christian has gone from the great hope to a the worst pick on the planet.

Some quite ordinary rumours about him being spread on there as well. The general level of foitball knowledge was also quite poor.

Mcmartin is a longer term prospect - petracca's self-belief alone will get him up in his first year.

an article in the yarra ranges paper quotes Bewick hs coach saying that he will be a steal at pick 2.

Yes as Ron pointed out whoever Melbourne get they are going to get the best grounding they could under Goodwin and McCartney.

These blokes appear to be two of the best in the business and are multi faceted.

I also believe in Smokeys after 40 with the team we have....

People have a right to be excited, but let's just wait until these guys play a few games before anointing them savours. Then again, this is November, our favourite month. :P

Me too. But I'm over that delusional feeling.

I'm now more logical. The club is being built differently now. Properly built. Resurrected in fact.

For instance, Gartlett and pick 83 for pick 61 and 79. That's simply an outrageous deal.

Previously, we would've traded our first round pick for that. And still been excited.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
