Third consequetive Bluey. Only the great Jim Stynes has done that.

Played every game this year .. again

Ambassador for MFC on and off field

Does not demand credibility, but earns it

Easily in MFC team of the decade and arguably player of the decade

Thank you Nathan Jones

You are now my favourite MFC player.

Cant wait to see you in 2015

Can't believe some of the tripe written in the other thread in regards to this great man.

Nathan Jones. A player who's 'talent' levels or 'natural ability' is being questioned and compared to other players within the AFL.

This is a guy who has consistently improved every part of his game since being drafted. This is a guy who has stood tall and who hasn't been affected by the failings of the MFC over the past 8+ years when nearly all of his fellow teammates have crumbled and fallen.

Nathan Jones is our very own superstar. I rate him just as highly as any other midfielder in the competition because of the unique situation he finds himself in.

How many other star mids in the AFL would be the players they are now had they been drafted and developed under the same toxic culture that Jones has been subject to? He hasn't had anywhere near the support some of the other stars of the comp have had.

He is a self driven, smart, hungry and desperate work horse who has done everything he can to get the absolute best out of himself for our club.

Nobody who has been drafted to the MFC at that time or since even comes close. Viney may be the next breed.

Congratulations Nathan, you're a legend of the club already in my eyes and someone who has the capacity to help turn this ship around.

I question the extent his of natural ability but that is so much more than countered by your comment "He is a self driven, smart, hungry and desperate work horse who has done everything he can to get the absolute best out of himself for our club."

Absolutely spot on. Give me 22 Nathan Jones any day of the week.

Nathan Jones is a bonafide A grade player. Anyone who doesn't think so is clouded by their overall disappointment with the MFC.

He is an absolute credit to himself, has been amazingly resilient, consistent, and has improved every single season.

Jonesy is one of the few players who keeps me coming back each week & each season. He deserves success so badly, and I hope that before his career is over he gets to play in a successful finals campaign.

Jimmy would be very proud to share the honour of 3 B&Fs with him.

Is in talks with the club about a long term contract extension, I know no one will believe this because I am new here but I have been told the club is hoping for 5 years on good money, there is a possibility he will be put up for trade if the club doesn't feel they can retain him, his trade value would be a lot higher than the compensation we are likely to get.

Yup. He'll never look back and wonder if he could have done more. He honours the number he wears, which is a rare thing at this club these days.

I don't understand the question on his talent and or natural ability. Without having seen him in the TAC cup myself but knowing people who watched him regularly the consensus is he was a dominator at that level. He was also an early draft pick.

Just because somebody gets the most out of themselves doesn't mean they were not talented to begin with. Talent and hard work combine to make A grade footballers and that is what we have in Jones.

I tell you what if Nathan Jones signed a contract extension for the [censored] he has been through personally he will go down as the greatest demon of all time.

I would even go to the extent of naming an award after him at the best and fairest.

Everyone remember when he was the whipping boy for us and we all wanted to trade him to Essendon?

This gives me faith that any player has the ability to turn it around and become a great player if they have the mind-set and willing to work. Lets hope Jones stays on and encourages everyone to turn it around like he did!

I think you have to be a supporter to truly appreciate him.

Outsiders get glimpses when they can stomach watching the Demons play, but those of us who watch the team every week get the full picture.

And it is every week, no matter the carnage taking place around him, that he stands up.

When he retires, he won't be remembered because he had the most ability, although he has plenty. He'll be remembered because he decided not to become yet another poster child for failed development at the Melbourne Footy Club, and instead became one of the most respected players in the league and redefine what it means to play for the red and blue.

Jones has become the player he is largely through sheer will and determination, and whatever support he may have received along the way, a lot of it he would have had to do on his own. He also did it during the lowest period the club has experienced in living memory.

For 3 years running he has been the bastion of pride at this club. And counting.

For all of this, he will be remembered for a long time.

If he leaves the club, I'll move to India and take up Buddhism. Walk around wearing a robe all day with no access to television.

I'll stop short of saying I'll stop posting here though because I don't want to make sweeping statements.

The 5 year contract I definitely believe but the trade, I doubt the club would be able to survive the fallout from the fans. The love for him is up there is with any player over history. For that matter I can't see him even considering going somewhere else.

He's from the Robbie Flower school of deciding to be awesome even when the world is going to shite all around him.

The true measure of any player is how he goes when the team is loosing. We have been loosing for a while so what does this say about Jones?

In my humble opinion and obviously in the opinions of many he is not only a Melbourne great! but one of the elite players of the competition.

For others, he only looks good because we are so bad. This logic is severely flawed because as many a great coach has stated "the true measure of a player is how he goes when the team is loosing".

He is one of the great's and we are privileged to have him in our side.

PS: I never wanted him to go to Essendone, wtf?

if jones does not sign a contract extension before trade week he will be traded, the club Will have no choice but trade him, free agency is going to keep the melbourne football club in the bottom for the next 30 years.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
