I watched all the finals and one of the things that struck me was this...... these good teams PLAY ON at every opportunity. And they play on FORWARDS!

We seldom play on, and when we do, it's backwards or sideways.

I noticed in the last quarter today in Adelaide, Port , knowing they were unassailable, started to play sideways and back, after not playing on.

Richmond then kicked 5 goals to 1 in junk time. I reckon Port would have increased their lead if they'd continued to attack. It didn't matter, but I thought it was instructive.

watching Ollie Wines turn it on in a final .. torture

But I bet he's glad Port picked him up and not the Dees.

Wish the young fella all the best, seems like a great kid (which makes it even worse for us)

Was it Neelds or Vineys decision??[/quot

Oh God will we ever know? Why did we go Toumpas over Wines? Todd Viney knew this kid backwards, forwards and every other way and yet went past him. I mean this man child has played every game since he was drafted. Some say Neeld intervened but why would he go past a ready made big inside mid for a lightly framed outsider? No idea. My thoughts are that CS was still CEO but really could we still blame him for that along with everything else?

Don't start this one again. Viney knew both kids really well...if he really wanted Wines over Toumpas and thought he was that much better then he should have walked. Neeld did not have the first hand knowledge to make this decision nor should of he been in the position to make the decision.

Interestingly Jack Viney made some very positive comments about Toumpas in the year running up to the draft so I really have some doubts about Viney snr being such a staunch supporter of Wines.

It was fun seeing Essendon and Richmond lose this week. Now for the Kangas next week and Hawthorn the following week. ;)

Not starting anything, simply stating that laying the blame solely at the feet of Neeld may be wrong.

No it's not, it's a problem I have I my workplace, something called accountability. Certain people not being held to account because they're a favourite son.

Not sure what you're are getting at here but I'm effectively saying the same thing as you. I have seen no evidence to say Viney was not responsible for picking Toumpas over Wines. Unless someone has that evidence I don't blame Neeld for the decision.

I thought I read somewhere that Viney had the final call, I'm probably wrong but that's what I remember . Coaches can/might say take best available or we require this type of player. My understanding is that after knowing they had J Viney in the bag, the thinking then became Toumpas would compliment him with some outside run.

It was funny to hear that apparently Ricky Petterd told him exactly that before he went from us to Richmond ... must have been an awkward first meeting ...

Hawthorn? Jeez, I wish, but I fear it won't happen. Yet another hawks premiership looming. Yuk oh yuk.

At least Hawthorn is going to have a challenge in its prelim.

Sydney's going to get Geelong or North Melbourne.

A Hawthorn-Sydney GF would surely be a total bore to everyone other than the supporters of those two clubs. IMO the only way that's going to be avoided is if the winner of Fremantle-Port is able to beat Hawthorn the following week.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
