Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

i know people at the club but it's hard to say it's done when he is just the first name to come up that Melbourne are meeting . I can tell you he is not the only coach we will talk too so your people are just wrong.

You really think he is the only person Melbourne has met with till now? Please....

I know this page get's filled with a lot of rumour and BS and perhaps there is no reason to believe me, but I can categorically say he'll be our senior assistant next year.

We'll chat after the announcement.

Ordinary by the Pies.

..what?

Oh...thought it may have been regarding allowing us to have Neeld.

On which point, and the general discussions about assistant coaches and how to asses them, Neeld did appear to have a reasonable pedigree when recruited, didn't he, as far as can be assessed?

When's that going to be? i'd assume give Essendons season is over there is nothing stopping them?

Local footy success, TAC success, turned Coll backline in to a successful unit then took their midfield to the elite level. All sounded good at the time.

The flaws I guess were that his head coaching was limited to Ocean Grove taking over post Brendan McCartney and that his time at AFL level was actually pretty brief. He wasn't a long serving assistant as others.

Goodwin too doesn't have the longest of apprenticeships but he was presumably getting experience in leadership and coaching to an extent whilst captain at Adelaide and as a senior player there under Craig. Then he had however many years under Hird then the year under Bomber. So already that's 3 coaching styles he's been exposed to. Then he'll have 2 years under Roos.

The major difference is that instead of finding the very best assistant out there and throwing them in the deep end by giving them the reigns we just have to find someone who has the potential and they can be molded. Given so many decisions are made by the senior coach at a footy club it must be a daunting task to come to a place and start with limited knowledge. Would be like sailing in the dark. The whole point of the succession plan is you avoid that. Because I think that's where Neeld made all his biggest errors in coming in a flogging a dead horse playing group instead of realising he needed to earn the trust of a playing group that definitely was underperforming but was also pretty lost.

Yes just like we got the good oil from Malthouse on Neeld.

Always thought Malthouse was happy to undermine the incoming Buckley by any means possible.

Including spruiking established Collingwood assistant coaches to other clubs.

I know that Goodwin was an excellent player and on-field leader- probably underrated here in Victoria and he must have been an impressive new retiree to get the gig at Essendon in the first place. Clearly Bomber Thompson must have given Roos the thumbs up - and Craig must hold him in high regard . Not sure but might have been Bernie Vince's first AFL captain as well.

Unfortunately I struggle to see anyone associated with Essendon as the blue -eyed boy we are going to build our future on - but I'll put that behind me if Roos gives him the nod.

The name "Party Boy" fits a troll well - but I wouldn't be surprised if he's proved right.

Sums up my thoughts on this pretty well as well hoopla

It sounds legit, but lacks any facts at this stage - it's all speculation.

WIll be interesting to see what happens, sadly the most exciting parts of a MFCs supporters life atm (off field movement)

Alastair Clarkson was an apprentice once...

Craig has also said he regrets the way he acted as a senior mentor to Neeld, trying to not interfere too much and basically standing by as he almost killed the club.

Roos has experience in handovers, and will start off as head coach with Goodwin under him.

Very different scenarios.

We are not Hawthorn we cannot afford another disaster

IMO the MFC needs the best experienced coach in 2017 he has a contract at Hawthorn at present but will be free at the end of 2016.

Get Him

I'm with you hoopla. This worries me! The last time a very highly respected, successful coach gave the thumbs up was Malthouse to Neeld (and Scott Watters). Look where that got us.

Even acknowledging that PR and PJ are pretty smart, Goodwin looks more like 'the best we can get' rather than the best out there. Being at the bottom is not the best time to go shopping. Would rather wait till we have a bit more success and can attract the Best there is.

A number of Assistant coaches said NO to the Port job and look at where they are now

Carlton went for the most experienced coach in the game at the moment and look at them now

Maybe It was the MFC that was the problem not the coach

Many have said things and if they don't happen or aren't true they will never post again. Never have stayed true to their word.
Range Rover (to his credit) did leave, he kinda even threw his own funeral/wake with nice (and many not so nice) comments from the rest of us.
Although i am suspect of his resurrection through some people on here...

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
