On Twitter just now Mick Warner from HS reporting Sando and Goodwin have the same management company and that Goodwin is NOT going to the Crows.

Well I don't think the Crows would be sacking their coach like this with 2 years left on his contract unless there's a Ross-Lyon-to-Freo type plan in place.

Surely they already know what they're doing?

Or alternatively, they're the 2013 Brisbane Lions...

Mind you, as bad as this might look, Justin Leppitsch was probably the lowest profile assistant available, looked a pretty lacklustre appointment at the time... and has done wonders for the Lions.

Good recruiting has helped, but I think he's been better than most would have imagined.

Its going to be bomber I tells ya. So much like freo scario. Also surely clubs are wary if returning heroes after Voss and third?

Thompson has been talking up a new role at the bummers I thought.

Alternatively, the crows might actually have no one necessarily lined up, but Sanderson may have got the senior players offside as rumoured.

That's actually a much more sensible reason for making such a drastic, sudden and ruthless move.

Question is, what could he have done to get them offside so much?

Who'd want to be a senior coach! Unlucky Sando.

I smell a rat coming in the back door here...

Tend to agree TVT. In these situations, you are either the cheating partner (eg, R Lyon) or the bride-to-be left at the alter (eg, Sando).

I would back it in he is, as we know management can be blindsided in these things.

Thinking about it, I think Crows must be in talks with a few potentials. If Goodwin was interested and they were interested, surely he wouldn't have met and presented to the board two days ago or yesterday if he had intentions of going to the Crows. You meet with the board with the intention of signing on.

It seems weird. Unless the Crows have no plans. Weird. This happened to us when they sacked Voss and I was so sure we lost Roos.

Nice deductions. Much sense in there. Footy's a funny place though.

Don't downplay the influence Ricciuto has on this decision. Was recently appointed to the board, thinks he is god's gift to the AFC and wants most things done his way. Passionate no doubt, but to the benefit of the AFC? Time will tell.

Plenty of rumours about that Goodwin said "I'm about to sign with Melbourne so sign me now or I'm gone".

Who knows if it's true, but it sounds like the Reverse-Neeld. If it is, hopefully it works out just as well for them.

Ricciuto is calling the shots, Goodwin is the new Crows coach you can back that one in.

They couldn't afford to let him go to Melbourne, he's a favourite son like Buckley.

Geez, if that is true, we really aren't having a great month are we? Making Roos look like quite the fool.

This club has been made to look like fools long before Roos, and sadly it seems nothing will change.

Doesn't make Roos look the fool - if the bloke holds off on making a decision because he knows a head coaching job will be available now, and he wants to be a senior coach now, then there is nothing wrong with that. There will be other guys in the pipeline that we have been interviewing, and there has been nothing more than rumours about him actually getting the job anyway.

Crazy to think you would sack a coach operating with a 53% winning ratio for an untried coach.

Surely they have bigger plans than Goodwin!

Can't begrudge the guy, but he'd want to feel up for the challenge. A two year apprenticeship under Roos is about as good as it gets.

Can see this ending very badly for Adelaide if history is any indication, and that makes me very happy.

Don't think Nostradamus could have predicted this turn of events. Can't see how it reflects badly on Roos.

Good coaches seem quite thin on the ground.

It may work out that we can make a play for Clarkson when Roos finishes. It's the wort of challenge PJ would love.

Not sure where it leaves The Dangerfield situation. If he was agitating for change it would be difficult for him to walk now.

The timing of his nearly-signed with us and Adelaide announcing this out of the blue is just too much of a coincidence. Especially if they saw Danger walking to us due to the lure of Roos and Goodwin.

I know what I'd do in Adelaide's shoes.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
