Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

LET'S DO THE MATHS!

I think we have to calculate how Adelaide can get a better deal this year than if they are to lose him to Free Agency next year.

If they lost him next year to us or anyone else they would get a band 1 compensation - on the basis it's still around. That would be the pick directly after their first pick in the 2015 National Draft.

So if they were to finish on the bottom of the ladder - with Dangerfield playing at the crows in 2015, they would get pick 2 (only) as FA compensation. In saying that if he played there next year (alongside Sloane, Walker, Talia, Smith, B.Crouch, Jacobs, etc.) I highly doubt they would finish anywhere in the bottom 3 let alone the bottom 5.

Therefore at best, they would be getting ~ Pick 6 for Dangerfield in 2015.

So pick 2 alone in 2014 could honestly be enough, that is already far higher than what they'll be getting in 2015. However a sweetener (like a player) will be required because what would stop the Saints jumping in and offering Pick 1.

In saying that pick 2 and 3 is completely ludicrous! YES I want Dangerfield as much as the rest of you, however based on the mathematics, pick 2 & 3 bares far too much currency where each can be used individually to attract an A or soon to be A grader of the competition with additional player or later pick sweeteners.

St Kilda don't have the money and he is the wrong approach for them, they just want picks, picks and picks.

Yes, vastly different situation with the Saints. They're in full rebuild mode and they're clearly going the youth road. Perhaps foolishly if our previous endeavors are any indication.

Roos has only two more trade periods left on his watch and he'll be hellbent on making sweeping changes that improve the list sooner rather than later. He knows we can't wallow at the bottom of the ladder for another year.

As for the trade earlier, best sweetener would be upgrading their second rounder by 8 picks, if they aren't satisfied.

We give them picks 2, 3 & 22.

They give us Danger, picks 10 & 30.

Trade pick 30 for Lamumba, that should satisfy the Pies. Take 10 to the draft to keep injecting youth. Third rounder on Stretch. Fourth rounder for Frost. Trade out any players that don't cut it for the best draft picks/players available (so Blease, Strauss, Tapscott). Trade the likes of Watts/Toumpas/Trengove for more established players if necessary. Pick up another one or two DFA as required.

Like all that bar the Watts/Toumpas/Trengove thing. Watts. meh give him another season and I honestly believe Toumpas and Trengove will star next year.

As will Watts. With a decent midfield around him.

As Priddis very modestly said in accepting the Brownlow - "it's easy for me, I'm an inside mid and just have to win the ball. I can control my performance much more easily than the guys on the wing or at half forward are able to".

Many posters here seem not to get this with Watts. Fortunately, Roos does.

Would really like to retain Trengove and Toumpas. See little point in getting rid of them at this stage.

Plenty of upside also with Salem, Kent, Michie, JKH and Riley. I think Viney also played injured for most of the year.

Add that lot to Jones, Vince, Tyson and Cross I think we have the basis of an A grade midfield.

No need for rash decisions.

Mate that is nowhere even close to an A grade midfield. more delusions

you have too much spending power DC. your used to paying window price...

P-3 & our 2ndRnd pick is enough for Dangerman + their 3rdRnd pick. = (Frawley + P-22) two picks to them to restock after they're penalties, so they can get their key talls......

allows us to keep P-2 & a 3rdRnd pick for a deal with GWS for Shiel & Jaksch. some other exchange will be needed to round this out. hear our plea Mr AFL. maybe P-20 ??

The spanner in the works could be if we have to use a 2nd round pick on Billy!

I thinks the maths approach does not recognise the negotaition reality. Next year all teams are in the race because they dont have to provide the compensation although top teams will be better placed. Our negotiation position next year is simply money and our coach Roos for one year. If we have improved over the year that may impact slightly.

This year our negotiation position is much better whilst most clubs will have the money to throw at him only a few will have the trade currency to dislodge him. If we plan on using just one pick (and a player) then that brings a lot of teams into the negotiation however 2 picks means we are essentially the only bidders or at least puts the competition at a significant disadvantage.

For a longtime D'landers have been crying out for an elite mid yet seem to think we shouldn't pay overs. We are the second bottom team with a list that needs to be overhauled.

Adelaide aren't stupid if they don't think they can retain Dangerfield then they will take the best deal, pick 2 and toumpas is more than fair if you ask me

It is more than they'd receive next year.

They'll be looking at a first round pick next year.

I wonder whether Sando floated this idea and that is why he is sacked.

Or whether Dangerfield wanted a flag, yet couldn't see Adelaide winning one under Sando, and that is why he is sacked.

Either way, Sloane, Dangerfield and Walker all have mud on their hands, so it is unlikely they'd have so much pull - if they were actually leaving.

Dangerfield has stated he desparately wants to win a flag, so I guess that counts MFC out.

Screw that!

I hope Roos gets on the gas hard and spikes his drink so when he passes out he grabs his hand and signs it on the dotted line.

My grandfather aledgedly got cleared to Maddingly from Redan in this fashion

Not sure if you're just trying to be a little sarcastic or not but there's no reason MFC won't be in a position to challenge for a flag before Dangerfields time as a player is past.

I would be really disappointed given the current club direction that if in 7 years time we haven't been amongst the top 4 at least a couple of times.

We cannot afford to be bottom feeders any more, we also cannot afford to screw up high picks again. Trade for this Paddy fellow, use these high picks we have, why gamble on a maybe player if there is truly a superstar of the comp wanting to come to us, if he doesn't want to be traded to us it will not happen anyway.

There is always the possibility for the pick 2 & 3 players to become superstars and "tear up" the comp in future years, but where will we be when that happens? If we have Paddy playing for us do you really think we will be worse or the same as we are now? What will the kiddies be learning from a star like him? Did we improve with Vince and Cross coming into the team?

Isn't it funny that all you people saying that it's overs to give up pick 2&3 for Paddy and Pick 10 when Paddy himself was pick 10. Wonder what was being said about him coming to AFC, bet there was people very unhappy that they didn't pick Rioli or Taylor!

With his old mates Goody and Vince on board I think he will at the very least have a long think before deciding.

AFL trade rumour Facebook page are saying we have offered pick 2 and either Trengove or Toumpas.

It's probably our information..They took it from us on Demonland and posted it on FB.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
