Patrick Dangerfield

How do other teams afford all their good players? You can fit more than one big salary in the cap. $1 mil? That's the combined wages of Jamar, Garland, & Howe, none of whom will be at our club next year.

Do you know with 100% certainty that all of those players won't be here next year?

Didn't think so.

Do you know how much money Hogan / Salem / Brayshaw/ Petracca will commend in the next 3-4 years?

Didn't think so.

As much as I like Dangerfield, we aren't in our "window" and I don't know that the capital outlay will be worth it.

To be honest, after the emergence of Brayshaw, the thought that springs to mind of Dangerfield joining the Dees is "meh"..

Saying that, I ldont mind the idea of Motlop.

I reckon stuie is right and all three are gone

Surely Garland would want to be around for our resurgence, after the nightmare he has been through at this club

Whether we want him or not is another story, personally I think he is super overrated on this forum

well front loaded or not it is still $800k over 5 years and with future inflation that is not that much

can't see danger only being worth $800k and it's not that geelong are a big flag favourite over the next few years

we could easily better that surely

Why just stand back and let the Cats dictate terms

If the MFC want to climb up the ladder we have to go hard at all available Top Guns

You win some & You lose some, but you don't just stand around and get pushed aside. We have been down that road and it very nearly killed us....

I don't see why people are so adverse to the idea of going hard at Dangerfield.

We pay $1m a year combined for Lumumba & Dawes to do sweet FA. Much better to throw that money at a genuine star like Dangerfield and bring in a hungry rookie in the vandenBerg mould to top up the list.

Add the almost certain departures of Jamar and McKenzie at year end, and possibly Howe as well, and we have oodles of salary cap space.

Don't know why people think Garland is going anywhere

Demons confident of re-signing Garland as interest from rivals grows

Nothing I read in that article leads me to the same conclusion as you ...

I for one believe that he is a 'bit' player. Easily replaceable and someone (like Frawley and Sylvia in the past) who will net is something better.

These guys are not leaders of the club and aren't taking the club forward. It's the younger guys who are doing it now.

Garland's position can easily be replaced and to be honest, I'd like it to be.

From the article: suitors include Carlton, St Kilda, Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions

I guess he not leaving for success then?!?! surely leaving for a team that will be finals next year would be the reason he would leave. dogs are a chance to have a good patch but not set in stone

I hope Col stays, he has been a solid performer. gives our backline flexibility and good rebound

the other line in the article:

However, the Demons' encouraging 4-8 start to 2015

reminds me just how pathetic we have been. Yay we won 4 out of 12!

I'm not opposed to going after big names but have absolutely zero interest in Danger. I reckon despite all that he has said that he will leave for money, not team success, etc. He is (in my eyes) a selfish player who loves the spotlight, I don't think he plays for the team or shows much leadership. Individually he is brilliant but I'd rather a Luke Parker type for much less money.

Since Brayshaw has come along and with Petracca coming in next year I have less concerns with getting a star in. I think we should try build a Sydney-like midfield, not one with a player on 1 mil a year. We will need to be giving Hogan a mil a year too when his contract runs out.

Also an out an out gun.

Offer him 1 million over 6 years.

And the best connections in Melbourne for life after footy.

Moggs Creek is only a couple of hours away.

I would rather throw big money at Dion Prestia personally.

Yes, but of the "others I'd prefer to throw big money at instead of Danger" which will cost us nothing but cap space?

I'd much prefer keep a top 10 pick while bringing his quality onto the list.

Dangerfield is a distraction. Forget him.

waste of time - wont happen... I dont think

That's why i haven't really bothered reading 130 pages of speculation

FA has actually brought with it a new paradigm whereby players may look to get out of contracts early and clubs may cut their losses and do a trade.

What I'm saying is, I wouldn't just be looking on the FA market.

I agree with what you're saying and I hope we keep winning games but the fact remains that with each win we will lose a relative amount of trade power in the way of picks.

Appreciating that trades can be done where clubs lose out, I feel confident that we won't bundle any of our promising youngsters with pick 5 to 8ish to get an A grader over the line.

It's a fine line.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
