I noticed with Howe playing in the backline he has the ability to get an extra spring in which helps him spoil players really well. Could turn into a very dangerous half back for us he just needs to fix some of his disposal errors.

Love Dunstall as a commentator. Unlike others he knows what he is talking about.

I use to love his sprays on after the bounce about players dribbling for goals. Funniest things I have seen. Him and spud Frawley are good to watch.

A much better player now. I had him as trade bait last year. He's now a vital defensive cog. Those calling for a return to the forward half have no idea.

I watched the second half again tonight. So many highlights , but what stands out is the repeat smothers by Cross and Salem. It's such a good indicator of effort and desire.

However, as they get older our expectations rise with how we expect them to develop. If Salem was a 3rd year player doing what he's doing now then do you think we'd be talking so glowingly?

That's what's happened with Hurley. He was a strong kid with no pace in his first year who impressed with his competitiveness for a 19 year old. Now he's into his 6th year and his competitiveness doesn't impress us anymore because it's not unusual for a 6th year player. But now we notice his lack of pace and the limitations this has on him. In truth, he's just a player who developed early. He may still develop further, but he's no worse a player than he was.

Statistically he's actually a much better player now compared with when he started. It's our expectations of what he should be doing that have changed.

This is a great post and holds very true for a lot of players.

With Hurley though, his attack on the ball is nothing like it was (although perhaps a different approach required when playing in defence).

And he was out-bodying men when he started. Now he just seems to be dominated for the most part.

However your point is probably right, I probably noticed his wins more than his losses when he started.

Great feed DD thx mate. Just finished watching the replay. Finally the boys have become the Hunters. Starting from about the 15 to 20 minute mark of the 3rd when Essendon had the foot on our throat and game was almost gone....they decided to go for it and they never stopped from there. Reward for effort. Dunny, TMac, Jetta, Pedo, Cross, Watts, McKenzie, Kent, Viney, Salem in the final term and so many other great passages of play in that second half.

Great win by the crew. Hopefully we can do the same this week and hunt down the Roo boys.

Jamar and Tyson. Spanked in the first half, dominated the second half. Great mental strength.
