Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Petracca and Brayshaw sound good.

Frawley compo and our second rounder - if we don't have to use it on Stretch - for O'Rourke and Plowman.

I say we go hard for James Rodriguez, pronounced yames. He is only 20, has poise, skill and can kick a goal from any position. It's a no brainier in my mind except I am not sure our salary cap could accommodate him?

Sounds like he should be playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

Theorectically we finish bottom 2-3, frawley leaves and we get tier 1 compo, i dont see us drafting kids with both picks.

Im sure we'll have a go at Shiel. The issue is will GWS have a need for an early pick in a kpp dominated draft? Maybe/maybe not.

Alternatively, there will also be Freo who may be willing to part with one of their prized players in order to get one of the top kpf prospects. I guess this will be dependent on whether Mundy leaves.

You do understand that development, environment, coaching and the recruiters a club possesses determines greatly the talent you bring to your club and the way that talent develops?

And you do understand that we have a COMPLETELY different football department of coaches and recruiters as well as an improved environment for young players to develop in?

Meaning the past 7 years counts for absolutely nothing.

As for Frawley, if he resigns, all I hope is that we see a player who's actions on-field indicate he wants to do everything he can to help this club improve and not just 'go through the motions' ala Sylvia... Because that will do nothing for us and I'd rather take the chance of landing a beauty who could help win this clubs next flag.

Well, I do understand things have changed, yes. But preferring draft picks to a bloke who is 25 and an AA full back is ludicrous, IMO. He showed his worth today.

My post was directed at those who are saying they hope he leaves, so we can get more draft picks. That's a very disappointing attitude, given where we've come from.

I do detract my statement though that draft picks wouldn't help. They could very well help, but I'd prefer a top draft pick (which we'll get due to ladder position) and keeping Frawley.

Cut Clark's salary in half and throw around 450k a year at sheil and treloar, two of the best up and coming mids in the comp would be a huge boost!

I'd fork over picks 4 and 5 for those two without hesitation

Anyone who can kick 30 metres to position would be a hell of a start!

I can...but is there running involved !!!

Heard from a pretty solid source last night that Adam Tomlinson wants to come back to Victoria at the end of the year and Melbourne is his preferred club so he can play with his best mate Dom Tyson again.

Not saying it'll definitely happen, (unsure on his current contract situation) as the right trade needs to achieved but I'd be very happy with him lining up alongside Hogan and Dawes in our forward line next year

It would be good to have players actively want to come to Melbourne.

Adam Tomlinson ... best mates with Dom Tyson

Tomlinson for pick #24 and Strauss

Tomlinson would be a good target actually. If he is wants out and is heading back home to Vic, we may be able to pinch him with a second rounder. Strauss has zero trade value though and they'd not bother taking him as he just clogs up list space.

We should put Toumpas up for a trade with our 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I would even offer up Howe. It is about time we were willing to give up some decent players to get something decent in return which fits our mould better.

would love him for the right price

193 centimetres and finds the ball, takes plenty of marks

Hasn't started hitting the scoreboard yet but it will come

Rekcon Roosy would turn him into a gun

He's contracted until the end of 2015. Apparently pick 3-5 could secure him though. Unfortunately I have seen nearly 0 GWS games so I couldn't comment on whether he is worth it or not.

He's not. I mean this is a nice way but he's a future Cam Pedersen. He's big. He moves ok. He can play a bit of ruck, forward, back or even as a big lumbering wingman. He can kick ok but more when the pressures not on him.

I think he went closer to pick 10 and you wouldn't use a pick 10 on him now because you'd rather take a chance of someone with a higher talent I think.

If we got picks 3, 4 and 22 then you'd try and force their hand with 22. Otherwise you'd want something more back for trading pick 4. You'd want Tomlinson plus another player worth something between picks 10-20, another 2-1 deal.

Toumpas sure. But Howe gets tagged as a backman for a reason. He's our best attacking backman and unless we can get Malceski and Shaw all of a sudden he's a vital player.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
