Jack Trengove out for year with navicular fracture

Bugger, shocking news for him. It's been said many times but he really is a good person and has strong character.

I wish him all the best in recovery, and I look forward to seeing him back on track in 2015.

Josh Mahoney interviewed on SEN just now, stated that Jack had complained about not being able to 'push/take off' earlier in the year, and scans then showed

nothing. Worsened pain after this week and new scan confirmed it. Good luck in recovery Trenners...

Also, mentioned that Garland would play Casey seniors this week, and Hogan in 2-3 weeks would play most likely at Casey..

This should put a few Trenners knockers at ease. A break from footy may do him good. Dees 2015 here we come!

A blessing in disguise - Jetta has been our most consist performer in the 2nd all year and if Terlich doesn't come up he would be a certain starter for mine.

You never flirt with form and when a player is up and about you must play him.

Sad news for Jack - but if ever I player had stagnated and needed an extended break it was him. 6- 7 months of speed training might just be the ticket

This is bad luck for Jack. For all/most of you who see it as an explanation for his form/speed, it isn't. He wouldn't have been playing with this. It presented on Sunday. He does clearly have midfoot issues however. Just a phase hopefully, and he comes back better than ever.

Couldn't be bothered digging it up but I said in another thread that in a weird way, the best outcome would be that something like this would be the case.

I can tell you first hand that these sort of injuries can greatly affect your speed, having suffered similar injuries myself and found myself unable to push off and accelerate, meaning I lost all of my acceleration and speed. And we can only assume he has been suffering from it for a while given the Dank text.

All in all, I am reasonably comfortable with this. Let this thing heal and be back for the first day of pre season 2015 ready to become the player we all know he can.

This is not a curse its a blessing - a player who was horribly out of form and confidence gets to have a break and find his love and zest for football again. A great opportunity to work on his obvious deficiencies ( speed) and the added hunger and now possible upgrade for players on the rookie list is a bonus !!

Any orthopedic surgeons or sports med docs here? I presume that this has a better prognosis that the Lisfranc injury, but as I understand it it is still no certainty?

What bloody rotten luck for the guy, but as some have said maybe he will be able to reset and come our firing and enthused for 2015.

Anyone who says the Norm Smith curse is a myth - think again.

He has a crack in his navicular, full brown stress fracture, it's a four month injury i would say, and given his history i would consider Trenners on ice until day one of 2015 pre season if he is still with the demons at that stage.

Much better than Lisfranc. The only potential complication is avascular necrosis (damage to the blood supply to the navicular, resulting in death of the bone, and end of career) of the navicular. Very unlikely. Ideally, this solves any midfoot power transfer problems JT has been having, which he has been quoting according to Josh Mahoney. I don't like the sound of midfoot weakness without pain, but we'll know if it's uncomplicated after the surgeon goes in on Friday.

Strangely I think its the best thing for him.

Can go away and forget about footy for a while and come back fresh and fit with the past well behind him.

Great bloke who put in hard for the club.

Agreed Robbie57.

It has been perplexing to see Jack playing excellent footy in that NAB cup game against Richmond then see his form tail away quickly.

Relief in a way to see that he probably struggled due to injury rather than not being good enough.

Terrible luck for Jack, but we can hope to see him back in 2015 to show how good he really is.

Meanwhile, Nev Jetta has been hammering on a closed door, and now he'll certainly be elevated. He's playing for his career this year, and now he'll get a decent chance.

do we owe the foot specialists a lifetime guarantee of supplying them customers.?

do they charge bulk?

Well. Bugger.

Still, like a few others have said, better to have a clearly defined issue to overcome than a general malaise that never feels like it will end.

Trengove gets a season to get his head right, get hungry for 2015, and then be the player we saw he could be in his early seasons.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
