Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Tom Mcdonald reminds me so much of Jim Stynes in size and body shape.

Imagine him in the Ruck.....would certainly take a few marks around the ground, and has great endurance.

Could drift forward of down back to fill a hole.

Tom McDonald would have considerably more success if he would stop charging, ball in hand, at the nearest group of opposition players

I am at a loss to understand what goes through that boy's mind when he gets the footy

Grimes speaking tough reiterating players will get dropped if they don't deliver the basics. Jones saying heads will be on the chopping block if you can't execute the fundamentals of the game.

Grimes denying the Roos contact has one iota of impact on the playing group. Got to stop using excuses for not performing.

Grimes isn't fantastic with the fundamentals himself, makes alot of silly errors.

I'm hoping Jetta will stay at casey for the first half of the season to give the developers time to reprogram his footy.

I'd like to see him come in some time after the QB clash. to give him time to get recharged & learn the new methods. don't want him thrown to the wolves before he has to to change.

There is constant bemoaning on this site about the lack of information the Club provides, interesting that some don't listen to or read what is actually on the website

Nev Jetta was in the best for Casey in the 3 practice games played, because he is playing FINALLY in the position that suits him best, at halfback

The fact that he is a rookie makes it very difficult at the moment to elevate him to the Senior list unless we get an long term injury again

Jade Rawlings also gave him a pump out in the preview video for the Saints game

Certainly agree re Watts as a leading forward especially with Howe leading up to the wing to create some space in the forward 50. Dunn has been one of our best and I assume you don't have Dunn as one of your talls needing to be dropped.

Correct, Dunn has been good down back. His forward work poor, he came as a forward don't know what happened.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this comment, I was at the game and Dunn was working very hard when thrown forward. No, he didn't kick any goals and I don't even recall him having a shot at goal in the 3rd or 4th but he was an important link up player off Half Forward. For patches in the 3rd and 4th he was the only player who took a contested mark and was accurate with his kick. Just watch the JKH goal to see what I'm talking about, few of our players would of been able to pull off that kick. There was one or two other times where he actually hit a target inside 50 unlike many of other player's who'd coughed it up around Half Forward.

I would like to see Dunn played CHF or there about's next week, especially if Garland comes back into the team. I think he's a player who has improved this year and seems to actually give a [censored], I can't remember how he played in defense for the first half but he really stood out for mine in the 2nd.

Were you at the same game as me?

Dunn - Contested marks - 0

Clangers - 3

Marks in forward 50 - 0

Tackles - 1

I rate Dunn but as a backman.

Edit:- Sorry to jump on you jaseon, I just noticed 1st post, well done, some of us can be a bit grumpy. Normally I would not have a go at an early poster, keep it up. I actually would pick Dunn in my best 10 players against WCE and the Saints.

I think many are missing the point that our midfield is going OK.

Now before you have kittens, the problem the midfield are having is they get the ball, look up and there is no one to kick it too. Then they go sideways or back to another player that looks up, no one there then sideways and back until we turn it over.

We really need moving viable targets up forward and until that happens we have more pain in store. Byrnes is not the answer nor is Dunn. I think until some forwards become available we need to raid the backline. Frawley or if available Garland forward. Fitzpatrick was so bad he must have been suffering from concussion still, if better I would give him another go, who else?

Dunn only played forward for about a quarter in total.

He also was directly responsible for our best kick of the day, and one of our best decisions of the day, when he got up quickly from his mark on the southern wing to hit JKH and beat the Saints defenders in their transition back to goal after Bail's great run out of our back 50.

More play like that and it would have been a different scoreline on Sunday.

Yep, wasn't he the player that missed his foot when he went to kick a ball and couldn't run a simple fumbled ball over the line

What match are you talking about?

He can be a penetrating kick, he is hard to beat one on one, he spoils well, takes a good intercept mark, he is an effective backman.

As a forward he is not AFL standard. Contested marks zero. Marks in forward 50 zero. He can hit a target but forwards kick goals.

I like Dunn, play him in defence.

in - one grab ball handling, not letting the opposition have a loose man , clearances

out - fumbles, backward kicking & Pedersen

As much as I hate it we may have to keep Pederson for another week. We need a forward so Frawley or Garand - if fit forward and lucky Pedo to play back until any tall forward available.

Any idea when our next training session will be ? Should be very interesting to see who has an extra spring in there step, and if Gawn is a chance of a surprise selection ? I don't think Jetta will be a chance as I have the feeling that Riley will come in after 1 or 2 games at Casey.

considering he has played in the side since 2010 and been underwhelming since the sling tackle game i would put him in the bottom 5 of yesterday.

When has Jack ever been close to grabbing a game by the balls.

It is what we need from him.

Christ the club Tanked for 2 years to secure his services!!

I would put him in the top 5 in terms of workrate.

He seems to have lost all power in his running.

Could we be seeing after effects of OP or the foot injury?

When he was drafted, he was never lightning fast, but he certainly seemed to be able to accelerate.

The last couple of grabs in this video highlight his running power before he was drafted.

Jack Trengove U18

Whatever, he needs to stay in.

We need another target. Watts has shown to be better in the midfield because he doesn't demand the ball and Pederson is not the answer.

Dunn needs to go forward until the cavalry return and Gawn should come in if he is fit.

I'm not buying into this tall forward stuff, you use the ball well you can hit any target big our small. The way the game is it is all about the hit up to leading players. Watch our game again even the West Coast talls didn't take marks because they were tall it was because the lead hard got a break and the kick was well executed. Hardly no wrestling strong big man marks. A tall would be great a a get out but we can't kick to advantage so the ball hits the deck and out it comes. Small and quick honour the lead and hit the kick that has to be the focus this week, hit the first option lead, move it quick, don't think to much. Then when our talls are ready we are able to hit them on leads at the moment it wouldn't matter who is in our forward line we just can't hit targets

I get that we are bereft of forward options but Dunn in defence has been a rare positive, why would be want to ruin that?

This idea of bringing all the players through the VFL is a bit frustrating though, we are crying out for a tall so surely we could just chuck one of Garland or Jamar as a target inside the forward 50. And what has happened to Gawn, one second he's set to come into the side the next he's off the radar.

When are we actually going to get some goddamn relief from this horror run of injuries.

If you leave out Dawes and Gawn there are another six or seven that could become LTI if we really wanted to up grade Jetta.

My team for this week based on Roos mixing it up:

B: Jack Trengove , James Frawley, Alex Georgiou

HB: Jack Grimes,Lynden Dunne, Colin Garland

C: Jeremy Howe, Dom Tyson, Daniel Cross

HF: Jimmy Toumpas, Tom McDonald, Dean Terlich

F: Sam Blease, Max Gawn, Jay Kennedy-Harris

FOLL: Jake Spencer, Nathan Jones, Bernie Vince

I/C: Shannon Byrnes, Viv Michie, Dean Kent, Jack Watts

EMG:Jack Viney

Michael Evans, Rohan Bail

I thought of Garland for forward pocket or FF as an option to bring him back with Gawn in the pocket and ruck.

The key really is Gawn. ( Does anyone know just what his current status is?) He will give us a target and he can take a mark (some uncertainty about his kicking). For all the [censored] he cops Byrnes is a good crumber - having Gawn there will give him opportunities. It should also give Pedo and Howe the opportunity to run and lead.

As to bringing Dunn forward - can/t have it - our backs aren't too bad given the [censored] they are put under. Leave them because GWS also has a big forwards.

Just read that but it says Garland wont be in for GWS then later that he will play this week, I assume for the scorps. Not at all clear anyway we should consider him if he is fit for the VFL as we really need him in some capacity. And how does Gawn go from ready to the 2 to 3 week out?

What on earth can Roos do without a forward line?

I like the idea of trying tom mac up forward with dunn.

I've said it a few times, but that is where he played most of his footy during his time at ballarat.

as I've mentioned, he can run as hard as nick reiwoldt, at the very least he would be a great decoy leading out creating space.

worth a try. theres not many other tall options up forward.

gawn could rotate with spencer in in ruck and fwd, i don't think either are fit enough to run out a game.

pederson can go to defence, bring in clisby as another back man,

play watts in the mid, move howe up to the wing or high half fwd,

If tappy is playing decent vfl i wouldn't be against trying him as a medium fwd, he has a good long kick, his rough style would be good against the younger bodies of gws.

I would prob like to see bail dropped.

bring in evans and blease in to the midfield. blease rotating between fwd and mid with perhaps trengove.

Id like to see the ball in bernies hands around the outside 50 mark.

I know players need to be dropped to do this, drop fitz and bail.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
