Changes for next week...

I think throwing Dunn forward means we can drop one of Pedersen or Fitzpatrick. Either one of them plus the Dunn and Howe show might get us somewhere. GWS have only 1 true tall defender in Frost, the rest of their key defenders are the same height as Howe and Dunn.

Pedersen can play of halfback, Fitzy just looked lost today and can't say much about him last week which was out of his hands. Didn't Dunn play as a forward during TAC and his first year at Sandringham/Melbourne.

We desperately need someone leading hard up the ground just to create something and straighten us up, If Gawn can come in as a tall forward I wouldn't mind seeing Dunn play at CHF and Howe leading high up the ground.

Unfortunately not a lot of options at the moment

Frawley for me

Controversial call I know but he played a miserable game. Too timid did not take the game on would take mark out of defence then stop an wait for opposition to cover rather then using the ball. His decision making was so slow he might as well just kick to the other team. Have noticed this a couple times and it frustrated the hell out of me.

I say drop him till he improves. But roos won't

The big question for the Match Committee is who's going to be backup for Spencer? Once that's resolved, the rest of the team selection is relatively easy as it's just swapping like for like in terms of role. Spencer can't do it on his own because (a) he's got to play against Mumford and Giles (b) he's not good enough and © we'd be in even more strife if he got injured early.

Neither Pederson or Fitpatrick would otherwise be in the side but if neither Gawn or Jamar aren't available, one of them is going to have to play.

With respect to the running players, M Jones is fast but he fumbled a lot yesterday; Michie is hard but he's slow and doesn't get enough possessions to justify his spot; Bail works hard and runs well but isn't quite there. (Trengove also looked as slow yesterday as he's ever looked).

If McKenzie, Viney, Garland and Gawn and Jamar are fit, all should play and should replace Michie, M Jones, Bail, Pederson and Fitzpatrick respectively. If McKenzie and Viney aren't ready, then I'd play Evans and Blease.

I'm sure he thinks he can win this week, so we won't do it. But it's seriously the year where I want to see every player on the senior list given 5 games in a row. Really delve in and see if anyone can stand up when given the opportunity.

This list cannot be as bad as it is. You can't tell me Evans couldn't do what Byrnes did, King could do what Fitz did last 2 games even with a small frame and let Blake work on Trengoves wing. I want to see these blokes.

I watched Dunn in the forward half yesterday.

When we had possession he followed the WCE defender around. When they had possession he was 20 metres clear?? He repeated this effort.

I seriously doubt that he understands the principles of football, sadly he is not alone.

Why won't they kick it to Watts. Saw him on his own and leading over a dozen times and they kicked it to him maybe 3 times.

PS. I was calling for Dunn forward at the StK game. Not any more.

The bad thing is we have no talls and the talls we have need to be dropped.

We need changes but looking what we have I can't see to many changes that would make a difference. Viney is one that if fit is good enough to play, Garland yep but he hasn't played a game this year, Gawn is there much difference between Gawn and Fitzpatick or Spencer.

like the players I just look at what we have and I'm defeated

Changes = minimal

Roos was never big on making large changes from one week to the next. Look at the team we pumped the Swans by 70 odd points the week after.... it was the same.

I'm not interested in bringing in a half fit Viney, Jamar or Garland either if they are not ready. Same goes for Gawn. They are all in my best 22 but lets wait till they are fit and firing before they come back in. It's hard to be patient I know but we are not playing for September this year.

He has to keep a similar team week after week and get some confidence back in the group. They are coming from so far back and they have to learn each others game and get some spark back.

It will come.

Matt Jones was the only player today that consistently spread from the contest with pace and purpose, he was often not rewarded so the stats may not show his endeavour. Many others today could learn from his game.

Yep, and once he learns how to kick a footy or at the very least make a good decision with the ball in his hands, he may become a decent player, but until then all he has is endeavour.

IN: Gawn, Evans, Viney

OUT: Pedersen, Michie, M.Jones

Pedo was ok in the backline, but we need forwards and Fitzy has the money in the bank even if it's only a few cents more right now.

Michie and Jones to come out, but really it could also have been Bail and Trengove.

JKH to stay as sub, doesn't have the tank yet.

There's a lot of bad in Grimes. But LeCras only kicked 2 and Grimes is always looking to work for his team mates. Watching Grimes is killing me right now but I think he's worth persisting with. I'm hoping when we get some back from injuries we can free Grimes up more to his high half back controlling job and that he starts to trust his skills and take the game on more. I'd rather see him turn it over than be so incredibly slow and painful to watch as he is now. Still think he needs weights and power training to get some spark in him.

I've been a big Grimes fan for a long time but yesterday was the worst game I've ever seen him play.

Note yesterday Wayne Carey when giving best players gave Cross 2 votes but awarded the worst player on the ground to the whole team. Re ins next game I understand MFC is very cautious with its players but Gilbert returned against Melbourne after a 6 week layoff for foot surgery for a broken bone and after no prep played well and buttered up again this week against GWS. Are we being a bit precious and maybe Garlo should be bought in.

Ultimately, no amount of changes will fix what is broken: a non-existent desire to win, and a lack of trust in one another. They need to learn that more than anything. They simply don't care enough to will each other on. I am not willing to concede that these players don't have the skill, or aren't AFL quality, because I am confident they'd all thrive elsewhere.

At one point in the last quarter, Spencer stood alone on the forward 50 on the MCC wing with his hands waving crazily.

The ball was chipped around about 5 times, all 5 players saw Spencer, but completely ignored him.

I was absolutely livid. We had 3 goals for the whole game at that point, and simply couldn't kick a goal. We had a guy 20 meters clear, admittedly not a great kick, but still an option, all alone, within distance. He was completely ignored. Completely.

There comes a time when you can blame the club and the "culture" so much. Yesterday was deplorable, the effort non-existent, and the urgency severely hindered. The Eagles were in 2nd gear.

Garlo should be bought in.

IMO he is either 2-4 or 4-6 weeks away.

Pederson can't stay forward, the players don't trust to kick it to him. He's a spud but if he's in position you should kick it to him, but they ignore his leads. He isn't totally incompetent in defense either, however if he's not playing down but then he's a waste of a spot.

Hopefully Gawn will be right and can come in, surely Viney must be right to go by now, and I'd love to see Kent back in the side. Fitzy was very poor this week but if he is ok (which I'm not totally sure he is) then he stays in as a target up forward.

My changes

In: Gawn, Viney, Kent

Out: Pederson, M Jones/Michie, Bail

Big statement 1. Pederson would not get a game in any other side in the AFL.

BS2 Time to play an under done forward, bring in Dawes or Gawn, even Garland as a forward half done better than Pederson.

BS3 Play Jamar out of the square, and I don't rate Jamar anymore but better than Pederson.

Saw Robbo at half time, I reckon he would do better than Pedo.

Jamar, Garland, and possibly Riley are playing for Casey this week and will hopefully be available for AFL selection next week according to MFC (as well as other more reputable sources!)

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
