just went to our site.................feel dirty now...............need a shower

Seeing Barrett's name on the club website seems very wrong.

Maybe Caro can pen an update on Hogan's recovery.

Oh right, that's footy related.

I'm surprised the club let him considering the clear hatred he has for us

"PAUL Roos' successor as Melbourne coach will be in place by the end of this season, chief executive Peter Jackson says"

- Damian Barrett

I dont think that is what Peter Jackson said at all.

He said:

"I don't want to put pressure on Roosy or start getting into some public debate about will be here for two or three years, I just want him to be really happy about the decision he's made coming to work each day and knowing he's done the right thing. If we do that for most of this year I think the rest will take care of itself."

Then later, when asked about timeframes...etc, he said:

"We would want to understand who's in that role towards the end of this football season, absolutely,"

I don't see any specific mention of a successor in there.

Does anyone else read those quotes and think the entire conversation is about Roos himself?

Clearly Roos is a lot more immersed in the role than he was a few short months ago.

Maybe if he is really enjoying it and the team starts having a bit of success, he'd be open to staying beyong the three years?

Surely Jackon would be in his ear.

Or am I reading it all wrong?

I thought the same. Just re-watched the interview too and DB says that MFC will definitely have a successor in place by years in end before PJ says "We would want to understand who's in that role towards the end of this football season, absolutely."

To me, that might mean that they've identified someone but they might not be available until end of season 2015.

Dead set, TFS is the worst footy related program on tele right now. The sound is terrible and Garry mumbling makes it a constant challenges with the remote control just to hear anything.

I would have thought its feasible and reasonable goal for MFC to have the replacement for Paul Roos locked in by year end.

I am not sure why there is all the angst and barbs at Barrett.

A number of posters here really are a precious lot.

we would have a fair idea right now of who is going to be available at the end of the year, it's entirely possible it's already a verbal agreement and not the right time for an announcement

In this case there's not much wrong with his article. But he's such a muppet. Look at his sliding doors segment for this week. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-03-14/sliding-doors-round-one

Richie Douglas doesn't return before round six... … the Crows chances of finals will be massively reduced. Underrated gun, Douglas.

Um maybe. But his just one piece of their midfield. What if he returns at week 7?

Brisbane Lions

we wind the clock back 10 years … … this footy club was about to play its first match after completing a third consecutive premiership. Absorb that slowly, then compare with today.

Why do we have to absorb that slowly? It's not that amazing.

Fremantle

Nat Fyfe does what we think he's ready to do in 2014 … … he will be the competition's best player come late September. Maybe by a long way, too. Geelong

Jimmy Bartel does indeed play as a permanent forward … … he'll kick 50 goals for the season.

No and highly unlikely. Fyfe after a great season all of a sudden becomes a long way better than Ablett and Pendlebury? Not to mention Dangerfield, Mitchell etc etc. And even the best small forwards with pace and quality ability to crumb goals don't kick 50. Bartel will always rotate positions but even if he didn't he'd be up the ground as a forward. 40 goals would be huge yet alone 50.

I could go on and on.

Had a great idea when I started wasting my time watching to see what info Barrett had on Essendon....none. I recorded it and ff until I found the Barrett spot so cut 2 hours of rubbish down to about 5 or so mins and even that was a waste of good time.

Meh.
I saw nothing that offensive in it.
At least he's not talking about scattergun recruiting or related bollocks.

It may be wishful thinking, but I reckon there's still a real chance Roos will get the "bug" and decide to lengthen his stay.

Me too, I think it's the only way to quote PJ.."We would want to understand who's in that role towards the end of this football season, absolutely,"

Can't see us poaching or interviewing applicants mid season to meet that time frame.

I don't understand the angst either - other media interpreted Jackson's comments the same way.

3AW were discussing it pre-match tonight and were a bit critical on two fronts.

Firstly, that we might anoint a successor this year, only to find that a Clarkson or Lyon is available when Roos' time is up; and secondly, that if Roos does indeed bow out after one (more) year, or even two, that the successor won't have had enough time as apprentice to make the succession work. Longmire had numerous years under Roos before taking over (mind you, Buckley had several years under Malthouse and that's not going great guns at the minute either).

Anyway, just passing on what I heard. I tend to think (or hope), like BH, that Roos will want to extend once he gets us up and going.

It's the general consensus that the bloke is fraud journo. Part of Hutchys crocmedia outfit is the only reason he gets his mug on TFS.
