You walk away from my club then you are dirt. I don't care how many times I cheered you before that.

Unless you do it after giving us a flag. Everything is forgiven on that one.

I think you need to adjust your thinking to the 21st century AFL

Not sure why everyone has such hate for Sylvia.

Yes he never achieved his potential but gee the hate some people are expressing here amazes me.

His case is free agency in motion.

We need to all get used to free agency players swapping clubs it will be an every increasing phenomena in the future.

Are we all going to show the same hate if Frawley leaves this year?

Agreed, not sure of the hate.

I don't wish him well but I don't hope that he fails or gets injured. I'll still have a look at the paper Monday to read if he gets a touch or not.

Not sure if many people know Merbein where Col is from but if you paid it a visit and had a look around you would get a fair understanding of why Col is a lunatic.

Or what? The day I can't irrationally love my tribe or hate on the others, is the day I walk away from AFL.

So Boooo, Col. Boooo!

Absolutely agree with the sentiments.

That said, I don't know about everything being forgiven for walking away after giving us a flag though.

And by that I mean, I actually don't know.

I'm only 42 years old after all.

I'm in the same boat, but I thought I'd better add that line in case someone brought up RDB

And it still hurts. I had 31 on my woolen jumper. I think it scarred me for life, I still HATE Carlton and to this day cannot stand a woolen jumper against my bare skin.

I don't hate Sylvia.

But my disappointment is that his talent overpromised and his performances underdelivered

(I only have irrational dislike of footballers who did the dirty - Scully for one. I dislike him, not because he took the money but he was so blatantly dishonest.)

There should be more hate for Frawley if he leaves, he will be leaving us in his prime if he does, Col gave us 10 years, and left at the backend of his career.

Don't understand why we wish these guys well when they leave. I hate seeing guys ditch us for other clubs, and might be harsh, but I wish them no team success. Unlikely, but I want those guys to look back and realise leaving was a terrible decision.

Except players who are delisted e.g. Brad Miller

Yea I think that Jarryd Rivers should be shot, hung, drawn & quartered

Guys you all have to get your minds around Free agency.

There is in the future going to be plenty of player movement from one club to another in the future.

You simply cannot get your knickers in a knot every time a player from the MFC leaves.

On the other hand we are happy for a player to do exactly the same thing to join us.

Are you going to have the same feeling to that player?

Remember we all thought he was going to be the next Mark Reccuito when we drafted him lol

(Sylvia & others) ... and maybe thats part of ours/they're problems, when they hear of the talk & whispers, & start believing them & start drinking their own bathwater.

It's footy. None of it makes any sense.

We happen to support the guys dressed in red and blue that run around on ovals of grass trying to grab a red coloured piece of leather filled with air which they then try to kick between two big wooden white poles.

It's footy, we can try to rationalise it but really, we can't.

All that is true jw

But we all have to get our minds around free agency it is only going to get bigger.

The Players union want total free agency, the length of service requirement will drop over the next couple of agreements.

It is sad but this is the way of the future.

It is 2014 not 1970

Just remember hate destroys the hater not the hated

He's always beaten up on the Tigers.

isn't that a trap we've fallen into over the decades, recruiting wise. We've gone out to recruit the ones who have troubled us the most... and then thought our troubles were over.

not so, the thinking was the trouble. and our workrates.

Doesn't just come down to FA to me, OD.

Can you honestly say that you believe Sylvia gave everything he could? Like Jonesy? Or Garlo? Even Dawes has shown he cares more about the jumper in his short time at the club.

To me he was someone who cared more about being a footballer and the perks that come with it than making the club better. Never a leader. Just an unfulfilled talent.

I don't hate him, but if someone like Frawley leaves under FA, he'll leave with more respect from me than Sylvia did, that's for sure.

Came on as sub in the third qtr.

3 disposals in total.

That's got to be viewed as a disappointing return.

Sorry, but I can't help but be amused by the "faux outrage" over Sylvia leaving... particularly considering he was constantly a target of derision in this site and more often than not the suggested delisting/trade option.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
