I can see the defence being borrowed from. Also there's a tall on the centre line that may have to shift fwd. Will Roos ressist?

He won't put Watts forward. I could see Dunn going forward but even so the main focus of this match is for people to practice their position and role and gell as units (eg mids, backs) so i would not be surprised if he just keeps everyone, bar Pedo, in the nominal positions.

Most teams would kill to have Jeremy Howe as their full forward

THis week we will see him there for a full game hopefully

Probably would rather Clark, Hogan, Dawes, Cameron, Cloak, Schultz, Tippett, Franklin, Roughead, Pavlich... you get the picture.

Howe won't be good as a FF as he would draw their #1 defender.

He is best where he is most dangerous; in the forward pocket, with their #3/#4 defender.

I agree binman

After all pop guns nominal spot is Casey

You are probably right od but because i'm often ridiculously optimistic i'm hopeful Roos can get a big improvement out of the pop gun. FOr me he was another player who looked mentally frozen last year and dead set fearful of making mistakes (which of course led to lots of them). He's a confidence player in my book (as i guess most are when all said and done) and perhaps Roos can free him up. I have similar thought about Strauss.

I hope you are right but I think some things are even beyond Roos!

If nothing else Jeremy howe makes a painful match up deep forward,

Posted (edited)

I'd go with

FB: Dunn Frawley Strauss

HB: Grimes McDonald Terlich

C: Vince Jones Watts

HF: Toumpas Pedersen Trengove

FF: Blease Howe JKH

Foll: Spencer Cross Tyson

Int: King, Michie, Georgiou, M. Jones, Clisby, McKenzie

Subs/Emer: Nicholson, Byrnes, Barry, Evans, Bail

Backline (Garland), Midfield (Viney) and small forwards (maybe Kent and Salem pushing for a spot) aren't far off full strength so I'd like to see some competitive signs there. Pressure for a round one spot should pretty much be on from now.

Tall forwards and rucks will have to do the best they can so good luck to them.

Interesting.

I prefer Clisby to both Strauss and Terlich.

Although he may not play, as he had a number of weeks on a modified program. I'll watch with interest those 3 this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Byrnes gets a run - he's experienced and Roos may want to see what he has to offer. I'd stick Pederson at FF - he's not mobile enough for CHF but could take a mark in scoring range. Don't know if your interchange is in any sort of order but I reckon Jones M will be given plenty of opportunities.

If nothing else Jeremy howe makes a painful match up deep forward,

If the boy plays smart footy and stops other opposition players blocking his run at the mark.

Therein, lies the unique problem of our side for the last 5 to 7 years….not enough selfless, team oriented shepherding.

Bruise free outside runners.

It's all about looking at the midfield for mine.

Jones, Vince, Cross, Trengove, Toumpas, Tyson, Watts, Michie, McKenzie and Jones all named. Intrigued to see what Roos does here and how they all perform.

Anyone know if the top 2 levels of etihad will be open. I don't want a repeat of the Kangaroos game were only standing room was available.

It'll be a lock in.

I'll be there with the boy (man) and leave the VCE kids behind me......

OMG fancy having to stand to watch some footy!

With the years it's become less of being a simple and happy spectator of a simple, manly contest and more of paying s'loads to watch a gormless "show". And most of us have lapped it up (but at least we have plastic seats). Sad really.

If we're talking about MFC in the trenches I'm pretty sure we're France..

More like Belgium. Some parts of France weren't walked over by everyone else ...

A slight change on D26 by naming Lyden as an interchange player for this particular match. He is one of the few who can go forward or back wherever there is a need.

B: Alexis Georgiou James Frawley Mitch Clisby

HB: Jack Grimes Tom McDonald Dean Terlich

C: Jack Watts Nathan Jones Bernie Vince

HF: Jimmy Toumpas Cameron Pedersen Sam Blease

F: Max King Jeremy Howe Jay Kennedy-Harris

R: Jake Spencer Dom Tyson Jack Trengove

I: Daniel Cross Viv Michie Lynden Dunn James Strauss

S: Michael Evans Matt Jones

I agree re the problem: but do you think Mr Roos will tolerate selfish non-team orientated play??

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
