According to the AFL Barometer for Melbourne, "players with one to four years' experience resume on November 6, while others are back on November 18."

That's the start of the official training roster but it's my understanding that quite a few players have hit the gym early and there might well be a bit of rivalry among our ruck brigade to reach new heights of strength and fitness down there at AAMI Park.

In any event, as much as I would love to be out there on Wednesday on that historic day when training under Paul Roos kicks off, work beckons.

Is there any information as to the time and place for the first run?

Of course, reports, as always, are appreciated.

I have a feeling, because its a public holiday, they get a public holiday too? Not sure the AFLPA will allow for players being forced to train on a public holiday in their "off season".

OMG - I still remember Mark Somebodyorother early in the 2013 season repeatedly lamenting just how well we had been training yet how badly we were playing.

Even under the indomitable Mr Roos I think I will hold my celebrations until I see some on field, in competition results.

Spoke to one of our players today who described himself as being "completely energised" after his first meeting with the new coach.

Hope that's the case with the players across the board.

I managed to get to see a few training sessions. It was the hardest I'd ever seen them train. Lots and lots of running. Disposal most times (as reported) was sloppy. Yet they kept up the running. You cant fix everything in one pre-season, when taking into account how far back we were in our fitness levels.

Now looking forward to see / hear about the change in training methods. Our fitness base has improved from where it was, our game day confidence and structures went to water. I'd say they were confused, trying to hard. and it all went to downhill from there. Without a midfield performing and injuries that we couldnt afford to have, I'd like to think we can improve out of sight in 2014. The best form of defence is attack. Instead of chipping across the backline, I hope to see them show some faith and run it through the middle or down the wings. Put some pressure on the opposition to man us up, instead of them sitting back waiting for a turnover. Mid ladder in 2014 would be acceptable.

I doubt it comes into it. Public holidays don't mean anything in the world of footy any other time of year, I can't believe they would even notice that one.

It is only a public holiday in Melbourne, not Geelong or any other states. It might not even be one in Casey, we could just train them there!
