Collingwood appears to be the frontrunner but our pick 2 and the fact that there's a prominent place in Melbourne's midfield for a player like Shuey.

I haven't followed him a great deal but this was interesting -

Shuey has played 66 games for the Eagles since being drafted at pick 18 in the 2008 national draft.

He had a brilliant 2012 season but could muster only 14 games this season due to nagging hamstring issues.

What do people think of pick 2 and a player for Shuey and West Coast's pick 8?

I think we'll struggle to get their first rounder back WJ unless we hand over a decent player ourselves. A Blease, Tapscott, Strauss etc type won't get it done and I'm not sure what else we would be happy to part with otherwise. If Sylvia was still under contract then I'd be happy to offer him to go with it but, obviously, we can't.

I think Pick 2 and our third rounder for Shuey and their second rounder might be something that could get it done.

Make no mistake though - we are in the box seat in terms of what we can offer the Eagles. The Pies may be more desirable but I think he is someone we can get over the line if he wants to come home and if the Eagles are willing to trade him.

Agree 100%. The only stumbling block is finding a player the Eagles want to go with the Pick. They don't really need any talls, we have no midfielders to give them and they are pretty set down back as well. Unless they see some real potential in Blease or Strauss or someone like that then I think we'll find it tough.

But you are spot on in that we need to stop the bleeding and be as active as we can while Roos is on board. If we can trade pick 2 for a great midfielder (whoever that is if it's not Shuey) and somehow stay inside the first round of the draft then it's a win for the club.

Would not happen. Giving up an extremely promising midfielder for a 6 pick upgrade would be laughable list management. Pick 2 is overs due to his injury history preventing him being on the park, but when he is there he produces more often than not. He is explosive and breaks lines.

If we were to get him via trade, it would be Pick 2 for Shuey and either their 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Only concern is injuries and therefor you could justify a sweetner on the trade, maybe our 3rd round pick for their second round pick could work.

But right now I'd take the straight swap. If Shuey is strong enough on coming home in 2015 then the eagles would have to consider our offer of pick 2 because they are unlikely to get a better one when he's out of contract and they lose the leverage.

You have mentioned that this is the delisting that has left you uncomfortable, but it believe that young Jamie will continue to tease and tantalise and never put in a consistent game.

Interesting to see how next year unfolds for him.

These days players nearly always get to their club of choice. While we're certainly best placed to satisfy West Coast's demands should Shuey decide to head home, I feel we need to convince him that Melbourne is the club to entertain. Collingwood are losing Thomas, Jolly and Shaw, so we may not be able to pay him more. So why would he choose Melbourne ? I actually can't think of a genuine reason, as his loyalty as a child will be long gone.

If I was Roos I'd be knocking on his door and selling his vision. Roos is probably our best/only hope.

WCE get three first round picks for the loss of a forward and a midfielder, the Hawks get a power forward to replace Buddy for the loss of a late first round pick and we get two quality midfileders whilst retaining our two early second round picks for giving up pick two. Seems OK for us and West Coast, just hope that Hawthiorn feels the same way.

That's exactly it - Roos is our selling point.

However, I don't think we're that far behind in other facets, it's just that we are behind.

We need Roos at his charismatic best.

The other thing we may have going for us, is getting on the front foot early and sniffing these deals out.

I always feel like Collingwood hears a whisper another team has had the crowbar out and pried loose a player, then they swoop in after the hard work is done. Fine if they are way ahead as first choice, but in a close race it can make a difference.

As for WJ's trade scenario, I think that's not too bad, and we could see a kid like Kent or Evans going back the other way.

I'd be loathe to lose one of them, but it's the price you pay to bring in developed talent.

Paul Roos can try and sell his vision although at the end of the day it will come down to a big contract.

We have to hope that we can bring in enough midfield talent this year so come next year we will be much improved and won't have to throw bags of cash at players.

If it accounts for anything, I had a dream I worked for the MFC and traded pick 2 for Luke Shuey before he was ever mentioned as a possible get.. Usually my dreams weirdly are a reliable source to predict the future, take of it what you will.

Lucky it was a dream, because it's been mentioned for quite a while as a possible get.
