Melbourne presidential wannabe Alan Stockdale doubts he can work with chief executive Peter Jackson

MELBOURNE is poised for internal war, with presidential wannabe Alan Stockdale challenging the authority of chief executive Peter Jackson.

P1ss off Stockdale you muppet.

I'm not so sure that the headline matches the content of the article but if there is going to be friction between Stockdale and his wannabe board on the one side and the AFL and Peter Jackson on the other, then I'm definitely against it.

Just became a grand pappy myself. I know the feeling mate. At least you can give them back.

Wonderful when they get to nearly 3

Stays with us most Friday nights.

You probably wont believe this but has today taken to Demon a red and blue teddy I bought her mother 30 years ago.

The machinations and factions and so on of our previous boards particularly in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's are so convoluted that it's unfair to tar everyone as particularly bad due to their presence. But in the same way it would also be wise to move on from anyone involved with those boards. Just like how the A-League was created with whole new clubs in an attempt to remove the race related differences in our soccer clubs in the NSL.

On another separate but linked issue it's wise to remember that Jimmy actually led a very united board and one that had plenty of good people on board and made some achievements - mainly debt demolition and a stable period. It also failed to bring in a suitable CEO to fix that revolving carousel and therefore the problems continued - no doubt made worse by Jimmy's passing.

So the AFL have advised us that our best route is for them to administer the club and that means placing their man in as CEO and then assembling a board that satisfies them.

With traditional means of business of course Peter Jackson's way of operating is out of whack with corporate governance. But we have lost our right to govern ourselves if we wish to get the AFL's rescue funds.

If Stockdale wants to be a team player he should submit himself and his ticket to review by the AFL and look long term as part of a succession plan when the board and running of the club is on solid ground. He can do all that without being destabilizing. I still am yet to be convinced Jackson will hang around for much longer than 18-24 months if the ship becomes righted and steady so he will get his traditional CEO appointed by the board in time.

I smell a rat. The last thing we need is division amongst the ranks. We (Jackson or AFL) or whoever need to get this right,we dont have many chances left.

Why do I feel Stockdale is Kennetts key to sneaking in through the back door.

Can we just select someone that bleeds red and blue, doesnt want us to relocate or give away any more homes games, then gets everyone pulling in the same direction, wipe the debt, and stand up for our club. Is all that asking too much!??

Anyone that has stated in the past they we should be located anywhere but Victoria, can go and get knotted (jeff).

I'll include his offsider Stockdale as not wanted.

As I have said previously if the AFL don't think Stockdale and co will be good for the MFC or PJ then they wouldn't allow it or agree to support him.

This is the thing I would take comfort from.

Vlad is very luke warm towards a Stockdale ticket.

Don't let this ego driven a... anywhere near the club, he had his turn and we're still recovering.

Would be a backwards step of massive proportions, might be worth a listen to SEN at 6 to hear what Neitz has to say about his name being thrown up. Whether it's just a Robbo story or not we don't need this now.

As for the corporate governance rubbish he is bringing up, it didn't seem to matter when his government decided to tip out elected councils and replace them with commissioners. It has been proven that the egos, and that means you Stockdale, that have tried to run this club have failed so I'm happy for the time being to be under AFL administration or whatever it is they are trying to call it.

Basically saying he's not part of any ticket and doesn't think a ticket is the way to go. Need to work with AFL.

Other than the now cliche corporate governance banner what is he offering? Has he got a few million bucks to donate? Since the AFL are prepared to bankroll us I'd take that and I don't care if they run us as a dictatorship if it keeps us Melbourne red and blue, promises success and keeps out meddlers. As others have said he has been missing for a long time. Just an oppotunistic politician trying to slip into the power vacuum.

Thanks rjay.

Wouldn't the ticket have to be approved by the AFL?

if so then they would be working with the AFL I would assume.

You would have to think that J Kenett is lurking behind the scenes, its a deplorable situation.

Stockdale says I "dont doubt" I can work with Jackson. Hes saying he can work with Peter Jackson but the journo puts the opposite in the headline. Id sue for libel.

Not happy about this at all. Where the hell has he been? What support has he given recently especially while Jimmy was calling all for help

Get rid of egos please and let's try to find someone with business sense who loves and has supported the Dees through our bad times. This is a backward, divisive move. No No No

i'm with u brother;

this is the old guard not relinquishing power, a right wing -kennet fat cat cuming home to take back the crown,to haunt the hallowed club.all over again..;

this bloke has been involved previously with the board when there was divisive selfish factions looking to merge..

hated gutnick & was shown the door as a peace deal in may 01..

one can smell the stench of "old" sticking grimy hands waiting to bring in his old cronies & return the club to a death march ...

just a power crazed bafoon..

he's only talked about himself & what he wants & insists pj will have to tow the line as his board will be in charge,,

after pj has done the hard yards..

NO WAY HO..

I'm very wary of Stockdale.

Insisting on his own ticket, making divisive noises, and singing directly from Jeff Kennett's hymn book.

At this point in time, I support anyone who is capable and willing to collaborate with the others already in place for the good of the club, rather than anyone coming in making demands.

My gut feel is to support Bartlett, who is young, switched on, has solid credentials, and is seemingly endorsed by the AFL.

But I don't feel any need to denigrate Stockdale, who is also a very successful person and has done far more for the MFC that I ever have, or will.

Seems like Neita at least is level headed at the moment.

I essentially agree but I do cal into question Stockdales motives, timing and ponder his agenda.

As others have noted, why cant he be a team player, why is it ME or the hIghway ??

I think Bartlett is a more astute path to take

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
