one of the most underrated players of all time, just a smooth mover and much like Robert Harvey he was almost untackle-able.

I want him because he wont cost us much and that hanger shows he possess a skill that the vast majority of inside mids do not have.

What do you expect him to cost us? he will be a late pick.

And I doubt you played TAC Cup and I doubt you had the ability to take a high flying mark as a compliment to your main strengths.

Worst case scenario it'll probably cost about our 4th round draft pick as he's not considered a top draft candidate, so we'd likely be able to get him in the rookie draft.

Personally though i suspect we may pass on him all together. Didn't get a run with Vic Country, seldom in the best for the Stingrays and an inside mid which we have a plethora of when we're looking for outside run.

Hope he gets picked up by someone, but suspect it may not be us.

Agree, he'd be a better chance of making it than some random pick#88 in the rookie draft, he has at least had us following him and no doubt be put on some type of plan to develop him at an earlier age similar to Viney and Stretch (maybe not as talented......yet).

But his 2014 season showed that he had promise.

A lot of assumptions there DD. Our picks in the rookie draft would certainly not be "random" (but I understand you were hyperbolising) and how do you know that he has been put on a development plan by the club?

old man wasn't quick, but he was tough as old boots, bled red and blue, and could find the football.

if jake ticks all those boxes, i'd like to add him as a rookie pick over some other anonymous player.

there's still got to be room for romance in footy, and the idea of viney, stretch and lovett being in our side makes me a happy camper. i just wish dollars boys had shown some aptitude for the sport. any idea of how jimmy's lad is progressing?

If you look at the history of father/son selections, it is by no means a guarantee of success. There have bee some great success stories and many flops. It would seem that the more recent sections have had a better success rate, i.e.- Watson, Liberatore, Wallis, Daniher, Waite, Viney etc.

If you look back at the history there are also some monumental duds. I don't see F/S as any more clear and indicator of ability than all of the other scrutiny employed by recruiters.

It is not time in our development to get sentimental over a player with a marginal skill set. I say we should leave him alone unless he truly warrants selection.

You've missed the point of F/S selections. Until recent years, clubs had to give up little or nothing to acquire the sons, hence the risk/reward was minimal.

How many times have you seen Jake Lovett play to make your assessment? Late selections/Rookie picks all come with an inherent risk. Call me a romantic, but I'd hate to see another club rookie Jake.
