Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A players contract does not expire until 31st of October.

This years trade period runs until the 25th October.

Therefor all players are contracted during the trade period.

You’re right, my bad.

Patrick Keane just confirmed that UFA’s can be traded in the event that the player is happy to go to the club involved in trade.

Trading Sylvia is an option.

Jack Watts getting massive interest from adelaide crows. Geelong also intrested in Watts but crows heavily into him. As are Carlton.

Taylor Adams high on Melbournes list but is apparently not intrested in coming to us.

Collingwood showing strong interest in Sylvia.

Our recruiters will be targeting midfielders and small forwards in the national draft.

Wont be any moneyball theme this year..

Source: Mate of mine just started working in the media and marketing department at the club.

Thanks dazzle,

Any rumour regarding Watts and interest from Freo? I believe I may have heard it earlier in the year (along with Carlton) or is it just scuttlebutt?

Cheers!

Did he really? On his twitter account? They are making this up as they go...

If Sylvia wants to go, I wouldn't trade him for anything less than the Pick 17-18 we would get with Band 3 compensation.

No club is going to give us that for an UFA.

I think that we should let him go as a FA should he want to leave and trade in any UFA/RFAs we want: eg. Matt Thomas, Scott Thompson and Daniel Cross for late picks.

You sit back and read about 'Oh it would be great to get pick 20 for Sylvia' or 'Oh lets just get what we can for J.Watts'

But the fact of the matter is... We can't afford to lose top 10 players.

If we can barely keep our best players.. so how do you all think we are going to attract other top players??

I completely agree with you and we would hate to see the club in this viscous cycle, although to be honest if we lose either of these two (or both) I don't think its the end of the world. If we lose Frawley next year, then I will be crushed.

IMO both players (Watts & Sylvia) lack that killer instinct and the will in wanting to be the best. They both have lapses in concentration and are just not those kinds of players you see "never stop working".

Sylvia at his age and experience should be in the leadership group but he's not, if anything he is a bad example.

As for Watts if a reasonable trade is organized I will be happy. We must ask what will Watts's role be in the future? If he will be that sweeping defender the drafting of Scharenberg or Bontempelli could fill that easily (based on a draft pick trade in), although of course there is the issue of losing 4 years of player development in Watts.

The drafting of a spine being a sweeping defender, and mid, + the inclusion of Hogan will set the club up for a decade if it can get the culture right.

I would be happy with that compensation, however I just don't trust the AFL's system. Knowing our luck we'd get pick 45.

Yep, he confirmed on twitter.

Completely agree with you on all points.

Just on Watts and Sylvia, whilst I’d be reasonably happy if they stayed, if we applied the ‘4 key pillars’ pre requisites our recruitment team are currently applying, how would these two rank?

I cannot believe some people are relaxed about Watts and Sylvia potentially leaving.

Our list just gets worse each year.

The list management at this club is criminally inept.

They are the most underperforming players on our list, so much talent, so much frustration watching them waste their talent by playing like the aren't interested. Credit to Col this has been his most consistant year in the AFL, he hasn't had the 1 or 2 great games like he usually teases us with, this year has been the same most games and just good workman like games.

I don't want to get worse either, RB. But if they wish to leave then we have to use them as assets. Let Sylvia go, strongarm the AFL for Band 3. And push Watts to the highest bidder and try to get a young, hard running mid.

These kind of decisions are not the reason we are terrible - it is pushing Bruce and McDonald out early for nothing. And it is drafting like the Minnesota Timberwolves for a decade.

If Watts and Sylvia get us Pick 17 and half of Rory Sloane then our list may be better in 2014 and will be better in the medium term future.

I don't like this watts and pick 2 for a B grade player talk, Watts alone is worth a mid-late first round pick imo.

Adelaide offer Rory Sloane they can have Watts and pick 20 for Sloane and a third round pick.

Gold coast offer David Swallow they can have a straight swap for Watts.

Sloan is going nowhere, end of story, we need to sign watts and Sylvia... The need to improve from within... If we can lure Adams from gws, that's a bonus.

Welcome aboard DeesEmb.

Yes we could do with improvement from within, but it appears that Watts and Silvia don't want to be at MFC. And neither does Adams from GWS, unfortunately.

You are correct. Lake was traded, as was Monfries. I suspect clubs will trade with low picks or exchange of picks to dilute compensation for players that don't demand much currency. We should have traded Byrnes in with a late pick, as getting him as a free agent ate into our compensation for Moloney and Rivers. Not that we would have got much, but it's something to consider.

Lake was traded. Here's an article so you don't have to bother checking.

http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/hawks-snare-lake-in-afl-trade-coup-20121008-2794k.html

You are right though, Unrestricted Free Agents can walk, though clubs may organise trades to dilute compensation if it's an amicable situation.

I may be wrong but I think Lake still had a contract with the Bullies for 2013.

Watts and pick two for Sloane?

I would only just give pick 2 for Sloane.

Matt Crouch plays a similar game to Rory, I'd soon rather take him at number 2 if we are heading down that path.

No way I'd part with Watts and pick 2, we will get a first round pick for Watts and that pick could be rolled gold in this even draft.

nek minit MFC do as they do, make a total disaster of the trade and actually only end up with half of Rory Sloan..

Bonjour everyone,

I am pumped after Paul Roos' statement tonight. This combined with the rumours of the family and cash incentives to coach us seems convincing to me that he will be our coach.

But on Facebook (Yes I know, COMPLETELY RELIABLE) I saw a rumour that has been untold of thus far. Paraphrased, It reads:

- An interstate on baller has been offered a ton of money by our club (Possibly Adams, Swallow)

- Working on bringing another on baller of the same level of talent

- Looking at a Melbourne-based ruckman who has played '80 odd games' and doesn't want to play for the coach for a defender and a draft pick.

- At least 10 delistings this year and most of the players know who they are.

Regarding the 3rd point, I think for numerous reasons that the players are McEvoy for Frawley and a pick.

- McEvoy has played 84 games

- Frawley is a defender and has links to St Kilda through Spud

- Melbourne would target someone who will help their midfield through hit-outs in exchange for a surplus of tall defenders (Tom McDonald plays on Frawley's opponent whilst Col Garland is switched to a taller man that he is capable of guarding.)

- St Kilda, as stated many times on Fox Footy has a major shortage in the field of 23-27 year olds and also a shortage of premium defenders as they have guys like Blake (retiring), Roberton isn't superb like Frawley but useful playing as the 2nd Defender and Sam Gilbert is not really a strong defender as he is a rebounder.

Hypothetically if this was to happen, I would have mixed feelings. We are losing someone who is seriously strong at holding the amazing forwards of the game and throwing Tom McDonald into the fire quite early. But this wouldn't be as much of a problem if our midfield could win the footy in the middle through the gained Hit-outs.

Take it for what it is worth :)

So we'd give the saints not only Frawley, but also a pick? Yeah, noooooooo. Tell the saints to go forth and multiply. They are desperate for a key backman, they didn't get Brown, so are really up the creek. They will need to be the one's who would have to pays overs, not us.

Like I said take it for what its worth. It's fair to say that Frawley has still not re-upped with us possibly for a reason. If he was contracted, I don't think this sort of deal would be put forward. And I also have skepticism about the addition of the pick.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
