Plain and simple people have differing opinions and I'm of the view that Roos wouldn't part ways with pick 9 and Howe to get Kennedy, (speaking hypothetically obviously).

It's not about rose coloured glasses. It's about belief in development with the right people in charge. I'm all for getting Kennedy, but for a deal that will benefit us both short and longterm.

See, I reckon he would. Kennedy gives us immediate credentials, Howe is not really the type of player Roos likes, and pick 9 may or may not tip the balance. I think certain star power over uncertainty is a great short and long term tradeoff, as we're talking 5 years here. Well within the period that Roos either walks away having successfully turned the club around, or not. He'd take him in a second.

the only swans player who knew before they were knocked out of the finals was mcveigh.

after that it went to the whole leadership group.

they were the only players who knew before the deal was broken by cordy.

someone must've talked...

Howe is very much like a young Trevor Barker, & my St-Kilda mates used to marvel at him, but in the SOO games coached by Barass at that time, they were incredulous when Barassi started him from the bench.

such was the difference between public perception of the player, & coaches impressions.

Kennedy plays for his clubs Wins.

I'm pumping sources on this one right now. Nothing to report yet however. Other than a certain player reportedly loving being at the club now.

Lol don't twist my words. I didn't say Howe would amount to nothing, I said that Howe is not a star and no where near the player Josh Kennedy is.

I'd much rather 30 touches with 6 clearances a game over a speccy every couple of weeks.

That's cool dude, that's your opinion that your entitled to, however I think Howe will be as good as Kennedy if not better.

Howe is Howe

Kennedy is Kennedy

It's a simple thing to say no doubt but there's clarity and beauty in simplicity.

wouldnt like to say goodbye to Howe

Would love to say hello to Kennedy

what benefits MFC ?

simples !

I can confirm that GWS were genuinely gob smacked by the Swans play on Franklin.

They thought they had him, and we're completely blind sided by the offer. They had no idea.

It was kept so secret by the Swans - they were actually impressed by how secretive it'd all been.

BUT - here's the rub it seems. I also reckon the Swans players had no idea. And, I suspect, many of them were not, and are not, cool about it.

Perhaps this rumour has legs.

Was not the "no Richard Head" policy player driven, and is it true that in effect (at least in the Roos era) the leadership group were consulted before these types of decisions were made?

It seems that the said policy has been abandoned - players may well be very rightly p'd off.

Is that certain player perhaps an ex Hawthorn star and the club he is enjoying is in Kings Cross??

Are on holiday but I hear from a contact that Hogan is loving the direction of the club.

Good to hear, we owe it to Hogan, give ourselves every chance to keep the kid.

As soon as PJ rolled out the old line about needing to create and environment to keep these players, I knew MFC was in the right hands.

Am I the only one who would be perfectly happy if we shut up shop and enjoyed what we've already gained? This has been a great trade period for us so far. I think any deal that comes up now will have to be pretty special to improve what we've already done.

I agree. We've done pretty well - or so it seems. The proof will be whether we get indigestion after eating the pudding.

Yep happy to go with this aswell. I still have a funny feeling we will grab another player or trade out one of our own.

Josh Kennedy would be something special. Otherwise, I agree.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
